What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Design Technology Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Design Technology Manager, you need expertise in design principles, project management, and a relevant degree in design, engineering, or a related field. Proficiency with CAD software, BIM tools, and familiarity with project management platforms like Asana or Trello is typically required, and certifications in design or project management (e.g., PMP) are valued. Strong leadership, effective communication, and problem-solving abilities help you guide teams and collaborate across departments. These skills ensure successful project delivery, innovation, and alignment between design objectives and organizational goals.

How does a Design Technology Manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams during a project?

A Design Technology Manager plays a crucial role in bridging the gap between design, engineering, and IT departments. They often lead coordination meetings to align project goals, ensure that design tools and workflows are integrated seamlessly, and troubleshoot technical issues that arise. Collaboration usually involves regular communication with architects, designers, software developers, and project managers to ensure that design deliverables meet both aesthetic and technical requirements. This collaborative approach helps to streamline processes, reduce errors, and deliver successful project outcomes.

What is a Design Technology Manager?

A Design Technology Manager oversees the integration of technology and design processes within an organization, ensuring that creative teams have the tools and workflows they need to deliver high-quality digital or physical products. They bridge the gap between design and IT departments, manage design software and systems, and streamline project workflows. Their role often includes evaluating new technologies, implementing best practices, and supporting designers to improve efficiency and innovation. Design Technology Managers are crucial in industries like architecture, engineering, and digital media, where technology and design closely intersect.

Role Summary

We are seeking an Autodesk Systems & Design Technology Manager to lead the configuration, support, and scalability of our Autodesk ecosystem. Distinct from a traditional BIM Coordinator role, this position moves beyond project-level model management to focus on the broader digital infrastructureโ€”specifically Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)โ€”that empowers our design and construction teams.
In this capacity, you will leverage your background in construction or design technology to act as a system owner rather than an end-user. Your mission is to architect the environments, workflows, and integrations that enable our engineers and project managers to deliver their best work. This includes a strategic focus on modernization, where you will implement AI-driven solutions and agentic workflows to automate complex tasks and ensure our platform scales efficiently with our growing portfolio.
Responsibilities

  • Own configuration and support of Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), including setup, templates, permissions, and issue tracking workflows
  • Dedicate 20-50% of your time to AI innovation, developing agentic LLM workflows and intelligent automations that scale our system capabilities and reduce manual overhead
  • Create and maintain internal documentation, training materials, onboarding guides, and support resources
  • Work closely with internal teams and external vendors to onboard new projects, solve tooling challenges, and ensure system usage is aligned across multiple programs
  • Identify and execute low/no-code solutions that improve automation, data flow, and system usability
  • Partner with product and business systems teams to ensure Autodesk tools integrate with our broader digital ecosystem
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to continuously improve tool adoption, training, and standards
  • Be the go-to expert for troubleshooting and strategic guidance on Autodesk tools (especially ACC and related apps)
  • Provide hands-on support and systems leadership across ACC Docs, Build, Cost Management, Project & Account Admin, Member Roles & Permissions, Project Templates, and more
  • Evaluate new Autodesk functionality and tools to inform our long-term systems roadmap

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of related industry experience to large scale construction, design, or operations.
  • Advanced experience with Autodesk Construction Cloud (Docs, Build, Cost Management, Revit Cloud Worksharing, Forms, Templates & Libraries, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of project workflows in design and construction environments
  • Proven ability to configure Autodesk tools across multiple programs and project types
  • Experience building training programs and user support resources
  • Comfort with low-code tools and automation platforms (e.g. ACC Forms, Power Automate, Airtable, Jira etc.)
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, identify process gaps, and implement improvements
  • Familiarity with data integration concepts and system interoperability
  • A collaborative, detail-oriented mindset with a passion for making tools actually work for people
  • Bonus: experience working in owner-operator environments or supporting cross-functional infrastructure teams
