Job description

As a Principal Product Designer at Weight Watchers, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the design direction of our products and services and ensuring that our user experiences are intuitive, engaging, and aligned with our business goals.

This is a senior IC role for a designer who thrives in complexity and ambiguity, owns large problem spaces end-to-end, and leads through influence, judgment, and considered product thinking. You will act as a strategic partner from product discovery and planning to execution and launch, helping to establish what excellence looks like for both the design organization and the wider enterprise systems.

Responsibilities

Design Leadership & Strategy

  • Drive the Vision: Lead and drive the design vision for major product areas, aligning closely with Product and Engineering leadership to influence product strategy and prioritization.
  • Drive 01 Initiatives: Lead early-stage, ambiguous problem spaces by framing opportunities, defining foundational systems, and shaping first iterations of new experiences.
  • Strategic Influence: Serve as a trusted partner to executive stakeholders, advocating for best product practices and ensuring alignment with long-term business objectives.

Craft & Execution

  • Design System: In partnership with the design org, define and evolve a unified design system, ensuring consistency, accessibility, and visual quality across all platforms and products.
  • Complex Problem Solving: Translate business requirements, member needs and market understanding into clear strategy and intuitive, elegant experiences. Deliver high-quality interaction designs, prototypes, and visual systems.
  • Prototyping & Validation: Lead the way with AI experimentation and advanced tools to bring concepts to life, iterating and validating solutions through research, data, and user feedback.

Collaboration & Practice Building

  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner across EPD, Clinical teams, Research, and Marketing to ensure design decisions are technically feasible and strategically aligned.
  • Elevate Design and Product Maturity: Partner with Design and Product leadership to establish frameworks, standards, and documentation that mature the design practice at Weight Watchers.
  • Communication & Storytelling: Articulate design decisions and narratives clearly to stakeholders at all levels, creating alignment and driving accountability across the organization.

Mentorship & Culture

  • Level-up the practice: Mentor and coach designers across all levels, providing guidance on product strategy, craft excellence, and professional growth.
  • Cultivate Excellence: Model exceptional design practice and foster a culture of continuous learning, curiosity, and high-quality execution.
What You Bring to the role:
  • Experience: 12+ years of professional product design experience, with a proven track record of leading end-to-end design for complex, multi-product ecosystems in regulated environments
  • Mastery of Craft: Deep expertise in UX/UI design, interaction design, information architecture, and systems thinking.
  • Prototyping Skills: Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools
  • Strategic Mindset: Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, connect design decisions to commercial outcomes, and influence product roadmaps through data-driven insights.
  • Leadership Presence: Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the confidence to influence at the executive level and drive alignment without formal authority.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
