Job description

Are you a hands-on mechanical engineer with a passion for fluid systems? Centrus Energy is seeking a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in developing and upgrading advanced process environments. This role offers the perfect blend of technical design, hands-on field support, and professional growth under the mentorship of industry experts. If you are looking to take the next step in your career, designing critical piping infrastructure for liquids and gases, we want to talk to you.
Your Impact:
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will transition from supporting senior engineers to taking ownership of projects, with growing autonomy over time.
  • Design & System Optimization: Support the design, modification, and layout of facility piping systems, performing crucial component sizing for pumps, motors, heaters, blowers, valves, and pressure vessels.
  • Technical Documentation: Create, update, and redline mechanical/piping drawings, plans, and specifications, ensuring all work complies with code and industry standards.
  • Analysis & Simulation: Perform pressure-drop, flow, and basic thermal calculations; assist with steady-state and transient analyses using CFD, FEA, or spreadsheet tools.
  • Safety & Compliance: Conduct pipe-stress and support-structure checks, documenting results for review, and actively participate in hazard analyses, safety reviews, and quality assurance.
  • Procurement & Vendor Management: Prepare ROMs, equipment lists, and technical evaluations to support procurement.
  • Field Support & Commissioning: Get hands-on with factory acceptance tests, field inspections, and system troubleshooting under the guidance of senior staff.

What You Bring:
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience as a mechanical designer, technician, or early-career engineer specializing in piping, fluid systems, or process equipment.
  • Experience with CAD tools for piping design and 3D modeling.
  • A solid understanding of fluid mechanics, structural analysis, and material selection.
  • Familiarity with ASME or equivalent piping/pressure vessel codes.
  • Strong communication skills to produce technical reports and presentations for project teams.
