The Senior Project Manager is the highest level in KCI’s Project Management career path, responsible for overseeing highly complex projects or multi-project programs. This role provides strategic oversight and direction, often managing multiple project teams and guiding project engineers to achieve cohesive project deliverables. The Senior Project Manager is instrumental in ensuring seamless coordination across numerous stakeholders, balancing competing demands, and driving projects to successful completion.

This role is ideal for an experienced Sr. Structural Engineer who thrives in a leadership position, managing projects, mentoring teams, and building strong client relationships. You’ll play a key role in delivering and executing a diverse portfolio of building and building-related projects across the country to support active projects the Mid-Atlantic Region and beyond while helping shape the continued growth of KCI’s building structures team.

 Key Responsibilities:

Project Management & Leadership

  • Serve as Project Manager for building structural projects, with full responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Develop and communicate Project Management Plans, defining objectives, schedules, budgets, quality standards, and safety protocols.
  • Support proposal development, scoping, and business development efforts.
  • Monitor project performance, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Serve as the primary client contact, maintaining strong, transparent communication and relationships.
  • Allocate resources effectively and foster a collaborative team environment.

Structural Engineering & Technical Oversight

  • Lead structural design efforts for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures, including both new design and existing building work.
  • Execute structural design and analysis for a variety projects and conduct site visits and field investigations as needed.
  • Develop and oversee development of construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Provide technical leadership and QA/QC oversight for calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Participate in all phases of design, including construction administration and bid-phase services.
  • Stay current with state and municipal policies, procedures, and guidelines relevant to structural engineering.

Training, Development & Compliance

  • Provide mentoring, technical development, and general oversight of junior staff, fostering technical growth and team performance.
  • Support the professional development of team members.
  • Ensure compliance with all KCI policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Develop project schedules from inception to completion, identifying opportunities to optimize workflows.
  • Negotiate contract terms, scope, and fees with clients and subconsultants.
  • Track budgets, utilization, and cash flow (WIP/AR), implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare monthly progress, performance, and completion reports.
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target (70%-80% typical).

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities.
  • Participate in project opportunity evaluations and consultant selections.
  • Assist in preparing marketing materials, project write-ups, and proposal documents.
  • Maintain and expand strong client relationships through consistent, high-quality service.

Education and/or Skills Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry) and minimum of 6 years of related professional experience, or 10 years of equivalent professional experience.

  • Experience should include a track record of expanding project management duties.
    • Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities to inspire and motivate project teams.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
    • Technical knowledge in the specific field of the project.
    • Proficiency in project management software and tools, with the ability to develop and maintain comprehensive project plans and
    documentation.
    • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to project management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong negotiation skills to manage contracts, scope changes, and stakeholder agreements effectively.
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles to effectively manage project budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation.


Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:
• Master’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry)


Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:
• Ability to complete the KCI PM Training and Contract Risk Training along with passing the PM Board within 6 months of start date.

  • Participation in continuing education and professional development programs.
