You will be working in the Infrastructure OU  in where we are responsible for bringing design, build and refurbishment excellence to complex civil engineering projects nationwide - combining technical expertise with a passion for creating lasting value for people and places.


The Lower Thames Crossing (LTC) is one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects.  LTC is a new road that will connect Kent and Essex through a tunnel beneath the River Thames and will be the greenest road ever built in the UK - creating six times more green space than road. The reliable new route will almost double road capacity over the river east of London to reduce congestion and give millions of people more choice on where they live, work and spend their valuable time.

We are currently looking for a Design Manager - Utilities who will be responsible for the Design Management of utility works packages, ensuring the design is delivered to an acceptable standard of quality in-line with commercial and programme expectations. 


As the Design Manager - Utilities, you will:

  • Be responsible for management of design in line with the Design Management Plan.
  • Work closely with the Construction Delivery Lead to provide constructability input and guidance to the designers.
  • Work with the Lead Design Consultant to ensure all works that impact utilities are managed and developed in a holistic manner to enable sequencing plans to be produced and accurate designs to inform pricing activities, assist in design of temporary works associated to utilities.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders and the client to ensure designs are reviewed and accepted and that project processes and risk procedures are followed correctly.
  • Manage all sources of utility design for the project. This will involve the Lead Design Consultant, Utility Companies, LTC and third-party Lloyds Accredited designers.


We are looking for:

  • Design Management experience of working on a major multi-disciplinary infrastructure project.
  • Experience of producing/managing design process for multi-utility projects
  • Experience of reviewing and navigating 3D models and Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in the use of information management tools such as ProjectWise, BC and SharePoint..
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction contracts through experience and formal training.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practice.
  • Ability to manage and deliver complex designs to demanding timescales with multiple stakeholders.
