Job description

Worthington Armstrong Venture (WAVE), a joint venture between Worthington Enterprises Inc. and Armstrong World Industries Inc., has established worldwide leadership in the production of suspended ceiling systems sold under the Armstrong brand name. Founded in 1992, WAVE operates under a long-standing corporate philosophy rooted in the Golden Rule, combining the world-class culture of both parents. These core values continue to emphasize and fortify an unwavering commitment to our customers, suppliers, and shareholders.

WAVE provides total ceiling solutions that create distinct and innovative visuals in both commercial and residential spaces, reducing installation time and cost, and supporting customer collaboration to meet project management demands.

As a Design Engineer, you will be at the forefront of transforming how our custom-engineered solutions are delivered by leveraging DriveWorks to drive design-process automation. In this role, you will partner with our Design and Custom Solutions teams to develop high-quality SolidWorks models and DriveWorks applications that accelerate engineering workflows, improve accuracy, and support our expanding portfolio of mission-critical and data center products.

We are looking for a skilled designer with a strong foundation in parametric modeling, a meticulous eye for manufacturability, and a curiosity for engineering automation. You will play a vital role in delivering accurate, efficient, customer-specific products while collaborating across Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and IT. While experience with DriveWorks is a plus, we are committed to investing in training for a talented designer who enjoys solving complex configuration challenges in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain SolidWorks parts, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Develop configurable parametric models that support custom products and accommodate varying dimensions, materials, finishes, accessories, and customer requirements.
  • Build and maintain DriveWorks configurators and engineering rules.
  • Validate automated drawings, bills of material, and engineering outputs.
  • Support engineering change implementation and new product introductions.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify product configurations and improve engineering efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Product Development, Manufacturing, Sales, IT, and Engineering.
  • Translate product requirements and design standards into reliable CAD models, configuration logic, bills of material, and drawing outputs.
  • Support the engineering release of new products, product enhancements, and custom solutions.
  • Implement engineering changes across models, assemblies, drawings, bills of material, and configuration tools.
  • Maintain organized engineering data, product documentation, revision information, and design standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience with SolidWorks or another parametric CAD platform.
  • Experience creating manufacturing drawings and assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of parametric modeling principles.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across functions.
  • Eagerness to learn new engineering and automation tools.
  • Familiarity with bills of material, manufacturing processes, tolerances, and engineering change practices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data organization, and lookup functions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with DriveWorks.
  • Experience with configurable or engineer-to-order products.
  • Experience with SolidWorks PDM or similar product data management software.
  • Knowledge of bills of material and manufacturing processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial equipment, data center, or mission-critical environment.

Compensation

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $86,970 to $108,713 annually, with a quarterly profit-sharing opportunity in addition to base compensation.
