Job description

Build What the Best in the World Use

At Shield, we don't build off-the-shelf products—we design and manufacture custom environments for championship athletic programs and leading healthcare facilities across the country.

From iconic locker rooms seen on ESPN to healthcare spaces trusted by some of the nation's top hospitals, every project is unique. If you enjoy solving design challenges, collaborating with manufacturing, and seeing your ideas become real products, you'll fit right in.

About the Role

As a Design Engineer, you'll transform concepts into manufacturable products using SolidWorks. Working alongside Design, Estimating, Operations, and Production, you'll create detailed production drawings, solve engineering challenges, and help bring custom projects to life.

This isn't a role where your designs disappear into a large organization—you'll see your work built on the shop floor, delivered to customers, and installed across the country.

Whether you're an early-career engineer looking to build your skills or someone with manufacturing design experience, we're looking for people who enjoy creating practical, high-quality solutions.

What You'll Do
  • Create detailed production drawings and assemblies in SolidWorks
  • Develop manufacturable designs for custom products
  • Collaborate with Design, Estimating, Operations, and Production throughout each project
  • Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve quality and efficiency
  • Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues with production teams
  • Ensure projects meet quality standards and production timelines
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve products and processes
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • SolidWorks experience through school, internships, or professional work
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret engineering concepts and create accurate production drawings
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing environment
Nice to Have
  • Manufacturing, fabrication, cabinetry, furniture, or casework experience
  • CNC machining or CAM exposure
  • Experience with production drawings and BOMs
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience

Don't check every box? We still encourage you to apply. We're looking for people who are eager to learn, enjoy solving problems, and want to build great products.

Why Shield?

At Shield, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Design products that are manufactured in-house
  • Work on a wide variety of custom projects—no two are the same
  • Collaborate directly with manufacturing and see your designs come to life
  • Develop your engineering and manufacturing skills in a fast-paced environment
  • Build products used by elite athletic programs and leading healthcare organizations

You'll join a team that values craftsmanship, innovation, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Benefits

This is a full-time, hourly (non-exempt) position with a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Company-paid Life Insurance
  • Short & Long-Term Disability
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) Match
  • Bonus Program
  • Paid Time Off
  • Seven Paid Holidays

Ready to build something exceptional? We'd love to hear from you.
