Job Summary
The Design Engineer is responsible for research opportunities for new products and creating prototypes. Design manufacturing processes and products with various criteria in mind, including cost-effectiveness, user experience and environmental standards. Analyze date from tests on prototypes and craft reports on projects progress.
Key Responsibilities
  • Designing manufacturing processes and products
    • Design new engineering products
    • Analyze prototype data and retest if needed
    • Research new product ideas and methods
  • Assessing product usability and safety
    • Improve existing products and processes
    • Ensure compliance with the industry's safety standards
    • Ensure products are user- and environment-friendly
  • Assessing design feasibility
    • Ensure new designs can be produced within our resources
    • Confirm that designs are cost-effective
    • Address repeatability when creating designs
    • Address ergonomics of installation on all designs
    • Ensure new products can be replicated with quality
    • Confirm designs can reflect a process in installation
  • Documentation and design curator
    • Craft models and drawings of products using CAD
    • Create dimension prints for internal use and outsourcing
    • Recorded all designs and revisions for future research and development
    • Capture needed components for bill of materials.

Qualifications
  • Education
    • Minimum Required: Engineering Degree
    • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience
    • Minimum Required: Experience as a Design Engineer or a similar role
    • 2+ years working in manufacturing environment
    • Good understanding of safety standards and environmental impact of a design
    • Preferred: 5+ years engineering experience in automotive manufacturing with emphasis on aftermarket products.
    • Experience using CAD software; knowledge of NX and AutoCAD is a plus
  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License
  • Ability to travel internationally
  • Strong technical background and a clear understanding of a manufacturing process
  • Experience using engineering software
  • Preferred: Proven engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to conduct presentations
  • TS16949 or IATF 16949, Quality Audits, and Environmental Management System and OSHA Requirements

Working Conditions
The following working conditions are present or expected on a daily basis:
  • Travel may be required
  • Office setting with some hands-on applications in a Manufacturing/production floor environment.
  • Frequent exposure to industrial manufacturing, automotive vehicles, weather elements, chemicals and robotics.
  • Tasks involving hand tools.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times on the production floor.
