Collins has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experiencedย Group Manager - Structural Designย to play a key role on our team inย Lexington, Kentucky,ย office.ย The Group Manager is responsible for the management and oversight of an internal team, specializing in a specific field of engineering. The Group Manager independently applies extensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices in broad area of assignments and related fields. The position requires a high level of ethical and professional conduct in technical and managerial activities.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides expertise in complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.
  • Responsible for engineering projects of varying size and complexity in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Oversees the use of computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Is active in technical societies.
  • Publishes engineering papers and/or articles.
  • Serves as a senior project manager or senior project engineer on complex projects and as a designated client contact.
  • Assists the Regional Manager in Business Development efforts.ย 
  • Supervises and monitors client relationships strategies.
  • Successfully develops and maintains meaningful relationships with clients.
  • Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
  • Supervises select group of employees and support staff. Manages the staff and is responsible for technical training, career development and performance of all assigned staff.
  • Serves as a coach for engineering and technical staff.
  • Responsible for identifying, recruiting and retaining qualified technical personnel.
  • Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.
  • Ensures that staff needing specialized training in health and safety procedures and practices receives such training and that safety is discussed as an important aspect of their work.
  • Follows established communication processes and systems to ensure effective communication with staff, clients and corporate office.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or masterโ€™s degree in civil engineering from an accredited four-year university.
  • 15 years or more progressive engineering experience, including project management.ย ย 
  • Maintains competency in and serves as major resource in field of expertise.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) and/or Structural Engineer (S.E.)
