This competition is restricted to internal applicants of the University of Alberta.

This position has a term length of 6 months.

Position Summary
This role is for current U of A students.

Operating within External Relations, the Brand team focuses on building the U of A's reputation through stewarding a strong visual identity and applying it to marketing and communications materials across the university.

The team is looking to add two part-time students at approximately 20 hours per week per student to support users of the External Relations Marketing on Demand program with graphic design assistance. The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver small, simple, graphic design-related requests in adherence with the U of A's brand guidelines and specifically within the Canva platform. The role will be client-focused and require a successful candidate to approach requests with timeliness, collaboration and the application of consistent design standards. Hours are flexible.

The Vice-President - External Relationsย leads the University of Alberta's efforts to enhance and protect its reputation locally, nationally, and globally.   • 1 year of formal or informal experience creating designs in Canva, including a foundational understanding of file formats and text/image settings
  • Basic understanding of visual identity and how to apply brand guidelines to design assets

  • Graphic Design in Canva: requests will utilize established layouts and include finessing client work, resizing designs, and assembling designs using client-provided text/photo/graphic assets. Across all projects, the Design Assistant must maintain the university's visual identity standards.

  • Project Coordination: manage and proactively communicate project phases, timelines, and any scope adjustments with supervisors and clients.

  • Client Management: During an active request, the Design Assistant will be responsible for direct communication with the client. This includes communicating asset suitability, edit cycles, and change needs.ย
