Job description

Title: Assembly Manager

Reports to: Deputy GM

Location: DMG MORI Manufacturing, Davis, CA

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7 AM – 5 PM

Classification: Exempt

Travel: 0% - 10%

This position has access to equipment and/or technology that is subject to U.S. export control restrictions. Hiring by DMG MORI must be made in compliance with applicable regulations.

The Assembly Manager is tasked to proactively lead and develop the Assembly team. This position’s responsibilities encompass planning, instructing, directing, and checking the work of Assembly teams.

Essential Job Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.   • Ensure the quality and delivery of assembly processes
  • Manage assembly rates and register work records correctly
  • Improve the productivity of the assembly group
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for team members regarding expected productivity results
  • Provides overall leadership to team including developing, motivating, and leading strong, effective teams.
  • Prepare and manage daily assembly schedules based on machine status, staff and equipment
  • Observe and coach employees on proper job-related activities and provide timely feedback on necessary action plans
  • Train and develop other assemblers on various assembly processes as needed
  • Lead corrective and preventive action plan development and implementation
  • Manage team member working time and reporting requirements and hold performance reviews
  • Implements new procedures based on production and machine developments and quality requirements
  • Precisely assemble mechanical units or fabricated parts at floor stations or bench to make relatively large or heavy subassemblies or complete units using hand tools and light power tools and equipment
  • Fit, align, calibrate, and adjust parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product operating requirements
  • Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
  • Communicate and work effectively across multiple teams and departments to achieve production goals

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 or more years of related experience
  • 1+ years of experience as a Team Lead
  • Successfully transitioned from engineering work to leading an engineering team
  • Strong communication and effective supervisory skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities and easily adapt to changing situations
  • Experience with precision machine assembly including use of hand/power tools and precision tooling
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ability to assemble sheet metal components, plumbing, motion components, and cast structures
  • Project scheduling experience
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Work Environment:

Manufacturing environment (assembly, machining, quality control facility) at DMG MORI Manufacturing. Exposure to possible hazards may include noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery.

Physical Demands:

Frequent: standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling, repetitive foot, leg, hand, arm, shoulder, and torso movements.

Periodic: operating power equipment, and utilizing a computer.
