Job description

Rate of Pay: $17.00

This is an entry level position within the Recreation Department which reports directly to a supervisor as directed by the Department Head. This position is responsible for the operation of Franklin Sports Complex and assists with special events and other department activities and programs as needed.  This position is responsible for various administrative duties, planning, and implementation of programs and activities throughout the city as assigned by the supervisor. 
 
  • Enforce city-wide ordinances, rules, and regulations and act as security for department property.
  • Greets and provides facility/department information to the general public both in person and by telephone.
  • Handles customer issues and concerns regarding parks, facilities and events within their knowledge and ability.
  • Resolves problems that may arise in a proactive and professional manner.
  • Performs facility opening and closing procedures as needed.
  • Provides routine maintenance assistance including litter pick-up in and around facilities, cleaning of restrooms and other light cleaning as needed.
  • Regularly monitors and inspects facilities, indoors and outdoors, to ensure safety of the patrons, activities and the facility. Performs minor repairs as necessary and reports any larger repair or concern as needed.
  • Assists with the implantation of department events, programs and activities as needed
    including set-up, supervision, breakdown and follow-up.
  • Stays abreast of issues and happenings within the facilities, department and community.
  • Performs other duties as required.

                  
Preferred Qualifications:
 
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Some experience working with a camp or within a recreation department is preferred.
  • Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license and a satisfactory seven-year driving history to include no DUI’s in the last five years.
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of various indoor and outdoor sports and games.
  • Knowledge of the care and use of equipment and supplies.
  • Knowledge of city safety procedures and basic first aid.
  • Ability to plan and organize recreational activities.
  • Ability to maintain discipline of a group including crowd control and to control recreation activities.
  • Ability to supervise seasonal employees.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and exercise judgment.
  • Ability to interact with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Experience working with children/youth in a camp/recreation setting is preferred.
  • Current CPR/First Aid or AED Certification or the ability to obtain prior to employment.
  • Normal hours are varied throughout the week and weekend. Availability to work on nights and weekends is a requirement.
  • Drug screen, background check and physical exam at time of hire required.
