Job description

How will this role impact First Command?

The Senior Analytics Consultant plays a pivotal role in enabling decision-making within the enterprise through insightful analytics. This individual will partner closely with business leaders to define analytic requirements, develop end-user solutions, and engage in ongoing collaborations for ad-hoc analysis and report/visualization development.

The Senior Analytics Consultant will leverage Data Products, new analytics tools, Information Architecture strategy, frameworks, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to partner with the First Command lines of business to rationalize data needs that are critical to our data transformation. 

As part of the Data Services capability, the Senior Analytics Consultant will have the opportunity to shape the Data Services capability based on the Enterprise Data and Analytics strategy and Data Governance outcomes.

The ideal candidate is outcome-focused and has a collaborative style that fosters teamwork. They will be required to work across multiple groups and initiatives. 

What will the employee do in this role?

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand analytic needs
  • Deliver tailored end-user solutions that influence enterprise decisions
  • Build partnership for ad-hoc analysis and data product development
  • Utilize advanced analytics and visualization tools, Information Architecture strategies, frameworks, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Compose insights and provide business data interpretation into a relatable presentation/story dependent on scope and audience
  • Complete data exploration and profiling by leveraging data analysis, design, and presentation tools
  • Develops working prototypes and analyzes data needs and gaps for product roadmap
  • Collaborates with Data Product leadership to prioritize product roadmap
  • Data Product champion that coordinates usage and enablement for self service analytics
  • Mentor consultants and provide guidance on best practices and methodologies

What skills & qualifications do you need?

Education

  • BA\BS required; MBA or MS or equivalent a plus
  • Certifications related to Analytics (e.g., Microsoft Fabric, Power BI) preferred; Power BI Data Analyst Certification or Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate will be required within 90 days if not already achieved

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of applied experience in analytics, business analysis or comparable positions that handle large/complex data sets, developing metrics, and fostering business partner relationships
  • Expert with visualization & data story telling using tools such as PowerBI/Fabric
  • Expert in SQL with knowledge of T-SQL and PL/SQL
  • Expert in advanced excel techniques and model development
  • Applied experience in using data insights to tell a story that leads to business recommendations
  • High communication skills are required to review, analyze, and evaluate user needs to effectively meet analysis requirements 
  • Must possess strong communication/interpersonal skills and leadership skills, and be able to deliver news that may be sensitive, and/or confidential, in a professional manner 
  • Ability to be a self-starter and take initiative to achieve tangible results from a conceptual strategy
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and generate innovative solutions
  • Applied experience in Agile, SAFe, Scrum or Lean Six Sigma
  • Expert in building analytics solutions in a cloud data architecture, experience with Azure Data Solutions including Microsoft Fabric a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of data modeling techniques such as 3rd normal form and star schema
  • Demonstrated understanding of digital marketing and operational analytics
  • Strong understanding of data management practices, data architecture principles, and data governance process; experience with data governance tools such as Azure Purview

Preferred Qualifications

  • Financial services industry experience or other highly regulated industry experience
  • Applied experience in Agile, SAFe, Scrum or Lean Six Sigma
  • Certifications related to Data Analytics
  • Familiar with building analytics solutions in a cloud data architecture, experience with Azure Data Solutions including Microsoft Fabric
  • Familiarity with source control tools such as git
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis and research techniques
  • Proficient in understanding of data mapping and lineage strategies
  • Proficient in understanding in conceptual, logical, and physical data design
