SCHOOL CITY OF EAST CHICAGO

2026-2027 School Year

POSITION: Dean of Students

LOCATION: Washington

REPORTS TO: School Principal

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Dean shall supervise, coordinate, and strive to maintain discipline within the school in order that students may develop their abilities to the fullest extent.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree Preferred in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, and non-degree

• Administrators License

• Background in restorative practices, computer knowledge, ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders,

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills

• Ability to work within operational and computer systems

• Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for student discipline with the aid of faculty members

2. Responsible for daily attendance of students and problem solving

3. Initiate conferences with new enrollees, withdrawals, and terminal interview procedures

4. Assist teachers with improvement in handling of discipline

5. Maintain good working relationship and work closely with referral agencies; police, probation officers, Family Services, A.A., and etc

6. Confer with students, teachers, and parents in regard to student individual plans, especially in regard to attendance

7. Work closely and lead the truancy program

8. Conduct continuous evaluations of procedures and programs

9. Coordinate all discipline procedures within the school

10. Submit to the principal an annual report of student activities and programs through the Dean’s office along with recommendations for future program modifications

11. Performs other duties as requested by the principal and assistant principal

12. Input behavioral data and attendance daily into our student management system

13. Follow and actively implement the positive behavior interventions for students.

14. Regularly communicate with the building principal and asst. principal on student behavioral issues. Regularly reach out to parents to communicate about student progress both positive and negative

15. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of the ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the school duties

16. Must possess written communication skills, including the ability to draft, edit, and proofread emails, as well as reading comprehension to respond to those emails.
