What you'll do
The Dealer Account Representative-Underwriter I is responsible for dealer relationships and sales activities with the dealerships who partner with Canvas Credit Union through Origence in assigned geographic area. He/she will help Canvas build and maintain relationships, increase loan penetration, control credit risk and ultimately drive revenue and yield while maintaining effective working relationships with dealerships.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain strong business relationships at assigned dealerships, including, but not limited to: Owners, GMs, Sales Managers, F&I Directors Managers and entire department, and the business office.
  • Identify specific sales and account management strategies for each account. Responsible for creating, documenting, and managing to these strategies.
  • Directly serve strategic initiatives set by senior leadership and the executive team
  • Regularly exercises independent judgment on matters of significance related to dealer relationships and sales at Canvas
  • Communicate dealership needs, how to increase their satisfaction, ways to grow our product penetration and increase yield. Ensure dealer questions or issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Understand the Origence systems and help train the dealerships' personnel on Origence processes, including software, rate sheet, and lending guidelines.
  • Work with dealerships to increase Canvas loan penetration and increase indirect lending opportunities.
  • Present reports and trend data to the dealerships to help them understand the volume and profitability of the portfolio.
  • Help resolve issues when a dealership is acting outside the established guidelines or is not following the responsibilities of the dealer agreement.
  • Underwrite indirect automobile loans within defined limits to manage the overall and individual dealership portfolio to the strategic volume, loss tolerance, and yield.
  • Actively promote and contribute to the achievement of organizational goals.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of general economic conditions or changing trends that may affect the credit union's indirect lending program. Provide timely feedback that allows the credit union to react competitively.
  • Maintain knowledge of competitors' rates and terms and other trends relating to auto loans or indirect lending.
  • Act as first point of contact for Dealerships on rehashes and escalations.
  • Attend/Host Dealer dinners and events, concerts and sporting events during and after regular working hours including weekends.
  • Ensure all contracts and relationships with dealerships comply with Canvas requirements, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
  • Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
  • Recommend and help develop and implement indirect lending policies and procedures that protect the credit union and members' best interests.
  • Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
  • Demonstrated track record of success in sales and customer service. Proven success in building strong customer relationships and new business development.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain indirect direct lending, underwriting and title work features, policies and benefits to employees, customers and business partners.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Canvas financial products and services.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Ability to maintain confidences.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado drivers' license and provide proof of insurance.

Education or Formal Training: Two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or three years of equivalent work experience.
Experience: One to three years of indirect lending sales and underwriting experience.

Working Environment/Physical Activities
High volume, fast-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. Must be able to attend meetings and events outside of regular business hours. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
