Intellectual Property & Technology Litigation Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking an IP & Technology Litigation Associate Attorney to join a highly regarded global law firm. This is an exceptional opportunity for an attorney with 4–7 years of patent litigation experience to work on sophisticated intellectual property disputes involving patents, trade secrets, false advertising, unfair competition, and related technology matters.

About the Role

The successful candidate will join a nationally recognized Intellectual Property & Technology practice representing clients in high-stakes patent and technology litigation before federal courts, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). This role offers significant client contact, hands-on litigation experience, and the opportunity to collaborate with attorneys across multiple offices and practice groups.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in patent, trade secret, false advertising, unfair competition, and other intellectual property disputes.

  • Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, appellate briefs, and other litigation documents.

  • Manage all phases of discovery, including document production, written discovery, depositions, and expert coordination.

  • Prepare for and assist with jury trials, bench trials, administrative hearings, and appellate proceedings.

  • Participate in proceedings before the PTAB and the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC).

  • Conduct legal research and develop litigation strategies, including mediation and other dispute resolution efforts.

  • Collaborate with attorneys across litigation, corporate, licensing, international trade, antitrust, tax, and other practice areas to provide comprehensive client solutions.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials.

  • 4–7 years of patent litigation experience.

  • Experience handling patent litigation and ITC matters.

  • Patent Bar registration and a background in science or engineering are preferred.

  • Admission to practice in the jurisdiction of the office of hire and in good standing.

  • Washington, DC candidates may be licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction if eligible to waive into the DC Bar.

  • Excellent legal research, analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple complex matters in a collaborative environment.

Compensation

$265,000 – $420,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
