Bering Straits Global Innovations, LLC (BSGI) was developed to provide general construction services to a variety of commercial and government agencies and to take advantage of Bering Straits Native Corporation and its companies’ previous experience in commercial and institutional building construction, alarm system monitoring service, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, and other related services.

About this position: Project Engineer Location – Hanover, MD

Wage/Salary Range: $75k - $85k

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Project Execution

  • Assist the Project Manager with schedules and coordinating the sequencing of multiple construction trades.
  • Assist the Superintendent with look-ahead schedules for coordination with subcontractors and government representatives.
  • Assist the Project Manager with meeting agendas, follow-up and documentation of meeting minutes.
  • Monitor progress and proactively identify potential schedule impacts after they become problems.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents with subcontractors.
  • Coordinate material deliveries and equipment to support efficient project execution.
  • Coordinate site vetting, invoicing, submittals and work scheduling directly with assigned subcontractors.
  • Support successful project turnover and closeout activities.

Procurement

  • Assist with bidding efforts for upcoming work, including but not limited to:
    • Direct subcontractor bid correspondence
    • Design Drawing Take-offs
    • Internal Estimates
    • Specification Reviews
  • Assist the bid captain and fellow bid team members with scoping confirmation.
  • Evaluate subcontractor bids for completeness and conformity to bid templates and requirements.

Quality Control

  • Ensure all work complies with project plans, specifications, UFC requirements, and contract documents.
  • Identify construction deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Support submittal implementation, inspections, testing, punch list completion, and project closeout.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate daily reports, project documentation, and field records.

Safety Leadership

  • Promote a proactive safety culture across every project.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with OSHA requirements and project-specific safety plans.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and immediately address unsafe conditions.
  • Lead by example through consistent safe work practices and accountability.

Client Relationships

  • Serve as a trusted representative for BSNC.
  • Build positive working relationships with Quality Assurance personnel, subcontractors, and other government representatives.
  • Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions professionally and proactively, in line with the managers appointed to the project.

Field Leadership

  • Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel to maintain project schedule and productivity.
  • Plan work activities to maximize efficiency while minimizing disruption to occupied government facilities.
  • Conduct daily site meetings and communicate project expectations to all trades.
  • Maintain a professional and productive jobsite culture.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications

  • Education Requirements: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferred in an Engineering Discipline or construction/management adjacent fields
  • Level of Experience Requirements: Entry Level position, internship or 1-2 years full-time experience preferred.
  • Required qualifications for hire: Valid Driver’s license, U.S. Citizenship, ability to obtain and maintain access to federal and military installations.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Proficient in Bluebeam or similar PDF editing software
  • Take ownership of every project as if it were their own.
  • Anticipate problems after they impact schedule or budget.
  • Hold subcontractors accountable while maintaining strong working relationships.
  • Communicate openly and professionally with the project teams.
  • Value quality craftsmanship and refuse to accept mediocre work.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.

Necessary Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift approximately 40lbs alone. Must be able to spend extended periods of time (up to 1-2 hours) on your feet or walking around a project site, potentially on uneven surfaces or within areas actively in construction. Must be able to get to the project site on time, and under your own means of transportation, this includes onto secure government facilities, through access control points.

Physical Setting: Work locations will vary depending on project locations, all project operations are based out of our Hanover, MD office. Project sites include locations in the greater Baltimore and DC-Metro areas. Employees are expected to transport themselves to and from project sites, or the main office on a daily basis.

Schedule and Flexibility: Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, start times vary depending on the project from roughly 6:00am to 8:00am and typically end between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. Employees are expected to be punctual and willing to work at the project site for the duration of the onsite work hours.

Other Pertinent Work Details: Project locations regularly require a vetted access to the project sites. Employees must be able to acquire and maintain access to federal installations, military bases, etc. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing any required background investigation, pre-employment drug screening, and obtaining access to applicable federal or military installations.

Additional Qualifying Factors
