As a Night Shift Supervisor, you're the steady, reassuring presence that keeps the program running smoothly through the quietest - and sometimes most critical - hours. You'll oversee nightly operations, mentor staff, ensure safety and structure, and provide hands-on support to youth in the foster care system.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Night Shift Supervisor plays a critical leadership role in supporting youth in the foster care system during overnight hours within a compassionate, community-based environment. This position provides direct oversight of night program operations, ensuring the safety, growth, and well-being of participants while guiding and mentoringstaff on the night shift. As a hands-on leader, the Night Shift Supervisor models professionalism, delivers crisis support when needed, and fosters a calm, structured overnight environment where youth feel safe and empowered. Working collaboratively with program leadership, this role ensures compliance with company policies, promotes continuity of care, and supports a culture of respect, teamwork, and high-quality care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Night Program Operations & Compliance: Oversee all aspects of nightly program operations, including client check-in/out, bedtime routines, and adherence to facility protocols. Ensure compliance with all Pyxis standards, policies, and procedures during night hours. Maintain a safe and secure environment for youth and staff overnight. Maintain clear professional boundaries, transparency with their "upper leadership/leadership team," and the privacy of all staff/youth.
  • Staff Supervision & Crisis Support: Lead, mentor, and support staff during night shifts; provide guidance and de-escalation support in emergencies. Serve as the primary point of contact for incidents or emergencies during the night. Model professional behavior and ensure staff follow all safety and program protocols.
  • Staffing & Coordination: Assign clients and tasks to staff during the night shift to maintain proper supervision and care. Monitor staff-to-client ratios and adjust assignments as necessary. Communicate effectively with day-shift leadership to ensure smooth handoffs and continuity of care.
  • Client & Facility Oversight: Provide direct overnight support to clients, including safety checks, bedtime routines, and crisis interventions as needed. Conduct regular check-ins to ensure compliance with overnight sight-and-sound policies and maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment. Address and resolve issues with staff or clients in real time.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete all required night-shift documentation, including critical incident reports. Ensure staff complete service and incident documentation within 24 hours or prior to the next shift. Promptly notify Program Manager and Administrator of critical incidents occurring overnight.
  • Night Logistics & Support: Monitor overnight facility needs, including safety checks, basic housekeeping, and vehicle readiness for emergencies. Ensure clients' belongings, blue books, and essential items are secure and available for day-shift transition.
  • Communication & Professional Development: Maintain clear, timely communication with Program Manager, Administrator, and day-shift supervisors to support program continuity. Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development as scheduled, including handoff debriefs with day leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; college degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of direct service experience with youth in the human services field; at least 1 year of supervisory or team lead experience.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Training and experience in de-escalation and trauma-informed verbal/physical interventions.
    • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills; able to multitask effectively under deadlines.
    • Proven leadership abilities in supervision, training, decision-making, and team building.
    • Proficient in accurate, confidential clinical documentation.
    • Demonstrates initiative, cooperation, a positive attitude, and the ability to build supportive relationships with staff and youth.
  • Work Environment: Work occurs both in-office and in the community, involving local travel, collaboration with referral sources, and occasional public speaking.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to walk (including stairs) and stand for extended periods; able to perform emergency safety interventions as trained; occasionally exposed to outdoor conditions and frequently to indoor conditions.
  • Time Requirements: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
