Job description

The Field Supervisor (FS) is the frontline supervisory leader responsible for providing direct, real-time operational leadership and oversight of daily EMS field activities within a high-volume interfacility transport (IFT) and 911 response system. Assigned to a specific geographic zone and shift, the FS ensures safe, efficient, and protocol-compliant operations through consistent deployment, staffing, and unit utilization while maintaining compliance with clinical, operational, and documentation standards.

Each Field Supervisor personally owns a defined set of Northwest Ambulance units and is directly accountable for crew performance, clinical quality, documentation accuracy, professional conduct, and annual performance evaluations for assigned personnel. The FS supports crews through real-time problem solving, coaching, and conflict resolution; responds effectively to incidents, staffing challenges, service disruptions, and overtime concerns; and enforces company policies across all shifts. Serving as the primary accountability link between frontline crews and Operations leadership, the Field Supervisor drives operational efficiency, consistent system performance, and continuous improvement.

CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain continuous awareness of CAD and unit status throughout the shift

Initiate redeployments to maintain system coverage and response time compliance

Complete supervisor shift report and provide detailed handoff to incoming supervisor at end of shift

Crew Supervision & Accountability

Directly supervise all crew members assigned to your owned NW units during your shift

Provide real-time support to crews on high-acuity, complex, or extended calls

Address crew fatigue, safety concerns, and professional conduct issues as they arise

Deliver verbal counseling and document all performance issues in accordance with policy

Conduct field observations and report findings to the zone Operations Supervisor

Complete annual performance reviews for all crew members on your assigned units

Clinical & Quality Oversight

Ensure adherence to clinical protocols on all calls within your zone and shift

Provide guidance and support during complex patient care situations in the field

Review PCRs (Patient Care Reports) for accuracy, completeness, and protocol compliance

Identify and support training needs and report clinical deficiencies to the Operations Supervisor

System & KPI Management

Monitor 911 response times throughout the shift and take corrective action on delays

Track IFT on-time performance and ensure crews return to service promptly after hospital transfers

Monitor hospital wall times and intervene when turnaround times exceed acceptable limits

Report KPI trends and system performance issues to the Operations Supervisor

Fleet & Equipment

Confirm all assigned units are stocked, operational, and compliant with infection control standards

Address equipment failures immediately and coordinate maintenance or replacement

Ensure units are restocked and prepared for the next shift before end-of-shift handoff
