Job description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area. Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Job Summary
Christ the King Church and School in University City, Missouri is a vibrant and diverse parish with meaningful worship, outreach into the neighborhood, and a strong emphasis on education. The Director of Music Ministry Coordinator supports the parish liturgical music ministry with a focus on liturgies that promote full, conscious, and active participation in worship. This role is responsible for developing and sustaining a prayerful, singing assembly through preparation and education.
Key Responsibilities
Liturgical Music Leadership
  • Plan and lead music for weekend Masses:
    • 5:00 p.m. Saturday
    • 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Sunday
  • Plan and lead music for Holy Days and Special Feasts
  • Plan and lead music for School Masses and Prayer Services
  • Collaborate with families regarding music for weddings and funerals

Choir & Musician Formation
  • Recruit, mentor, and rehearse adult and student choir members, cantors, and instrumentalists
  • Lead rehearsals and ensure adequate preparation for liturgies and retreats
  • Prepare and distribute weekly music materials for choir members and cantors
  • Develop and implement a plan to recruit choir members and cantors
  • Provide opportunities for both musical and spiritual formation

Program Leadership / Administration
  • Collaborate as a team member with parish and school staff and committees
  • Develop and maintain worship aids, hymnals, music resources, and digital materials for liturgies
  • Report copyrighted materials as required

Professional Qualifications
  • College degree or advanced degree preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in piano and organ
  • Experience mentoring or coordinating musicians of varied skill levels
  • Familiarity with Catholic liturgical music

Skills & Attributes
  • Respectful, organized, collaborative, and able to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and music notation software
  • Willingness to support Catholic teachings
