Position Summary:
The primary function of the Janitor role is to perform cleaning and maintenance duties at various contract sites, ensuring sanitary and secure environments. Responsibilities include traveling to assigned locations and performing comprehensive janitorial tasks such as trash removal, restroom cleaning, floor care, and restocking supplies. Additionally, the Janitor maintains necessary documentation and adheres to agency policies. The role requires strong time management, communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Flexibility, attention to detail, and the capability to manage physical demands are essential to the Janitor role.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Collect supplies and equipment as needed per assigned sites and drive to the sites, entering, securing and reporting to each site as required. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)

Follow the checklist for the site performing janitorial duties including but not limited to; emptying trash; cleaning restrooms; restocking supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, and hand soap as needed; vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping; washing windows; dusting; cleaning baseboards and air vents.   1. Make sure that buildings are secure when exiting. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)
  1. Returning vehicle (if applicable) and supplies to JTP program site. (Essential and Non-Modifiable)

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
  • One (1) year of work experience in a customer service role and/or healthcare setting is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Other Requirements:
  • A minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Must have a current, valid Illinois Driverโ€™s License.
  • Must have current, valid proof of automobile insurance.
  • Must have reliable transportation to transport persons supported.
  • Must possess the physical ability to assist residents with mobility as needed, including the ability to perform physical activities related to providing direct support for individuals served.
  • Attend and satisfactorily complete all training requirements and mandatory staff meetings.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Be able to operate and maintain different types of janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
  • Experience working in a physically demanding position, including the ability to lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs. frequently, the ability to bend, stoop, twist, turn, squat, climb stairs, walk, and stand stationary. Must possess the ability to physically manage any special needs of individuals supported by Sparc, including the ability to lift and transfer supported persons as needed and the ability to assist program staff in emergencies.
Working Conditions:
  • The Sparc Administration Building, or Vocational Buildings. Some locations may expose the employee to mild to moderately high noise levels.
  • Safety and security procedures for each work site must be followed.
  • Staff in this role may be exposed to various illnesses and diseases as well as hazardous and toxic chemicals, with some exposure to physically threatening clients, bodily fluids, bloodborne and airborne diseases, viruses, communicable diseases, etc.
