The Opportunity
Join a team responsible for designing, administering, securing, and optimizing enterprise database environments that support mission-critical operations across a global technology enterprise. As a Database Specialist, you will help ensure the availability, integrity, performance, and scalability of enterprise data platforms while supporting business applications, operational systems, and emerging technologies.
This requisition supports multiple experience levels-from professionals beginning their careers in database administration and analysis to senior engineers and architects responsible for enterprise database strategy, modernization, and technical leadership. Successful candidates will work across relational and non-relational database technologies, collaborating with application developers, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity professionals, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, resilient, and high-performing data solutions.

Responsibilities
Depending on experience and level, responsibilities may include:
  • Install, configure, administer, and maintain enterprise database environments supporting mission-critical applications.
  • Design, implement, and maintain relational and non-relational database solutions that meet performance, scalability, and availability requirements.
  • Monitor database performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and resource utilization.
  • Perform database tuning, query optimization, indexing, and capacity planning.
  • Develop and maintain backup, recovery, disaster recovery, replication, and high-availability strategies.
  • Support database security through access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance with organizational security requirements.
  • Design and maintain database schemas, logical and physical data models, metadata, and enterprise data standards.
  • Collaborate with software developers to optimize application performance and database integration.
  • Develop automation scripts and tools that streamline database administration, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Perform database migrations, upgrades, patching, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Analyze data quality, integrity, and system performance while resolving database-related incidents and operational issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, database standards, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams.
  • Support cloud migration initiatives and hybrid database environments where applicable.
  • Senior-level professionals may define enterprise database architecture, establish technical standards, mentor junior personnel, and lead modernization initiatives across multiple programs.

Required Qualifications
Qualifications vary based on position level.
  • High School diploma with relevant experience or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Experience supporting database administration, database engineering, database development, data analysis, or enterprise data management.
  • Knowledge of relational database concepts, SQL, database security, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
  • Experience troubleshooting database issues and supporting production environments.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server environments.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience administering enterprise database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, or other commercial or open-source database technologies.
  • Experience designing enterprise database architectures and implementing scalable, highly available database solutions.
  • Experience with database replication, clustering, failover, and disaster recovery technologies.
  • Knowledge of data modeling, ETL processes, data warehousing, and enterprise data governance.
  • Experience supporting cloud database technologies within Microsoft Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments.
  • Familiarity with scripting and automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar languages.
  • Experience with database monitoring, performance analytics, and enterprise management tools.
  • Experience supporting DevSecOps, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, and automated database deployments.
  • Experience supporting Federal Government or Department of State enterprise IT environments.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle Database Administrator Professional, AWS Database Specialty, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, CompTIA Data+, or comparable database, cloud, or data management certifications.

Pay Range:
There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
