Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Senior Project Manager IT at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for managing large projects including development and maintenance of project plans and reporting of project status.
Essential Functions
  • Develops and maintains complex project plans which involve tasks of multiple participants and stakeholders
  • Drives accountability from project team members and serves as a subject matter expert in project management process improvements
  • Provides project status and summary to wide audiences including senior management
  • Identifies interdependencies in programs and serves as the go to person for project management
  • Leads project management process improvement efforts
  • Participates in project definition activities including feature analysis and system tradeoffs
  • Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems including evaluation of new technologies to improve existing functions
  • Serves as a mentor to less experienced Project Managers (Project Manager 1 & 2)
  • Understands business impacts of issues and how they relate to IT owned solutions
  • Develops and maintains all project documentation
  • Motivates and drives accountability from all project team members, including the coordination of resources assigned to projects for which he/she is responsible without direct authority and resolves conflicts with little assistance
  • Contributes to advanced technical research on new technologies and determining feasibility of team or functional goals/objectives

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates mastery of project management principles and adapts practices to meet rapidly changing business climates and needs
  • Demonstrated experience with a proven track record in successful implementation of technology solutions
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead projects in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Demonstrated excellent time management and follow-up skills
  • Proven experience managing projects on Engineering software development, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), or Enterprise Business Application initiatives from concept through implementation and production deployment

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Experience managing cross-functional technical software development projects from requirements through implementation and deployment
  • Strong understanding of Infrastructure and Security concepts and processes
  • Familiarity with and demonstrated understanding of IT Service Management
  • Experience with and understanding of ERP/EDI concepts and processes
  • Experience with managing or hands-on working with enterprise business application, including Bills of Material (BOM), Inventory Management, and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
  • Familiarity with database systems and large scale application lifecycle management
  • Experience with release processes and SDLC
  • Experience successfully coordinating large scale globally based projects to move, add, and/or change aforementioned underlying technologies
