What are Data Warehouse Engineers?

Data Warehouse Engineers are IT professionals who design, build, and maintain systems used for storing and analyzing large volumes of data. They create data models, implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and ensure data integrity and optimized performance within the data warehouse environment. Their work enables organizations to efficiently store data from various sources and make it accessible for business intelligence and analytics. Data Warehouse Engineers often collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, and database administrators to support informed decision-making.

Data Warehouse Engineers often encounter challenges such as data inconsistency, varying data formats, and incomplete or duplicate records when integrating information from diverse systems. Addressing these issues requires careful planning, robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and close collaboration with source system owners and data analysts. Additionally, ensuring data quality and maintaining up-to-date documentation are crucial to support efficient troubleshooting and future scalability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Warehouse Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Warehouse Engineer, you need expertise in database design, ETL processes, SQL, and data modeling, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Informatica, and cloud platforms such as AWS Redshift or Google BigQuery, as well as certifications in these technologies, are valuable. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate with stakeholders and address data challenges efficiently. These skills ensure the reliable integration, storage, and retrieval of high-quality data, which is critical for business intelligence and decision-making.

What sets Atlas apart is our agent-owned model and shared commitment to service excellence. That focus has fueled extraordinary growth and weโ€™re just getting started.

About the Role

Weโ€™re looking for an experienced, hands-on Data Management Supervisor to join our Data & Analytics team. This role is a technical leadership position responsible for guiding and contributing to the work of our database administrators and data engineers while ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of Atlasโ€™s data platforms.

As a player-coach, youโ€™ll balance direct technical contributions with team leadershipโ€”partnering closely with IT leadership and business stakeholders to ensure our data environment supports reporting, analytics, and operational needs. Youโ€™ll take a proactive approach to data management while also responding effectively to immediate operational challenges.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Act as a player-coach by contributing directly to technical work while leading and mentoring the data team.
  • Provide technical leadership for database administration, data engineering, and data platform operations.
  • Direct the administration and maintenance of databases, ensuring optimal performance, availability, security, and reliability.
  • Partner with the DBA team to implement industry best practices and ensure adherence to established standards.
  • Design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines, data models, and integrations to support efficient data movement across systems.
  • Manage and optimize data warehouse operations to ensure accurate, reliable, and timely data for reporting and analytics.
  • Oversee data lake operations, ensuring compliance with data governance, security, and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to understand data needs and align data solutions to organizational goals.
  • Assess data integrity, high availability, security, and privacy to ensure strong data management practices.
  • Review database designs, structures, and implementation plans, and support enhancements to active applications, scripts, and procedures.
  • Oversee project communication, timelines, and deliverables, ensuring work is completed on time and within scope.

Your Wellness Is Our Focus

  • Employee Assistance Programs with a strong focus on mental health
  • 24/7 access to a licensed therapist

  • Onsite Fitness Center and Medical Clinic

Financial Wellbeing

  • Generous 401(k) matching retirement plan
  • Pre-tax savings options including HSA and FSA
  • Tuition assistance
  • Financial wellness resources through our Employee Assistance Program
  • Earning potential up to $115,000

Flexibility & Time Off

  • Paid time off including vacation, sick leave, parental leave, holidays, and disability leave

What Youโ€™ll Need

  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field required; Bachelorโ€™s degree strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in database administration, data engineering, or related roles, including hands-on experience with data pipelines, data warehouses, and database platforms, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to lead technical initiatives and manage cross-functional work.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate business needs into effective data solutions.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Warehouse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure Data Factory.
  • Knowledge of database backup and recovery, security and encryption, data archival, and data masking techniques.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse architecture, design principles, and data modeling.
  • Ability to lead by example through direct technical contribution.

Our Promise to You

At Atlas, we want you to grow your career - not just fill a role. We invest in our people through:
