As a Data Engineer II on the Intelligence & Industrialization (I&I) team, you'll own the design and delivery of scalable data solutions that power Amazon's global transportation procurement and international customs operations. Your pipelines will process terabytes of logistics data daily, enabling teams to optimize billions in supply chain spend and accelerate cross-border delivery-directly fueling Amazon's flywheel of lower costs, lower prices, and better customer experience.
You'll work with AWS technologies to architect end-to-end ETL solutions, build robust data warehousing infrastructure, and deliver automated, self-service analytics capabilities

You'll collaborate with Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Scientists, and Software Engineers while maintaining full ownership of your technical domain. This is a high-impact role where you'll see the results of your engineering in real-time operational decisions that shape how Amazon moves products around the globe
Key job responsibilities
- Design, build, and own scalable data infrastructure on AWS (Redshift, S3, Glue, EMR) that delivers reliable access to large-scale transportation and customs datasets for cross-functional stakeholders
- Architect and implement end-to-end ETL pipelines that ingest, transform, and load data from diverse sources, ensuring timely delivery of critical business metrics with a focus on automation, efficiency, and fault tolerance
- Drive database performance optimization through workload management, query tuning, and monitoring strategies that maintain high availability and fast response times for analytical workloads
- Enable data-driven decision-making by partnering with BI Engineers and Data Scientists to deliver self-service analytics, data visualization, and machine learning solutions that reduce time-to-insight
- Establish and maintain data quality frameworks, data catalogs, and governance processes that protect data integrity and empower business users to discover and trust the data they rely on
A day in the life
You'll start mornings checking pipeline health and resolving data delivery issues. Deep-focus time is spent building new ETL pipelines, optimizing Redshift queries, or designing data models.

Afternoons shift to collaborating with BI Engineers on visualization requirements, supporting Data Scientists with feature engineering, or translating business questions from transportation procurement stakeholders into technical solutions. You'll balance hands-on Python and SQL coding with design reviews and knowledge sharing-ensuring teams across Amazon's global supply chain have the reliable, timely data they need.
