Data Privacy Internship information

What is a data privacy internship?

Data Privacy Internships are temporary positions designed for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in the field of data privacy and protection. Interns typically assist with tasks such as compliance audits, policy development, risk assessments, and data security initiatives under the supervision of data privacy professionals. These internships provide exposure to laws like GDPR and CCPA, and help interns develop skills in safeguarding personal and organizational data. They are ideal for individuals interested in legal, IT, or compliance careers related to data privacy.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a data privacy internship?

As a Data Privacy Intern, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as assisting with privacy impact assessments, supporting compliance documentation, helping to review and update privacy policies, and participating in data mapping exercises. You'll likely collaborate closely with legal, IT, and compliance teams to ensure the organization’s data handling practices meet regulatory requirements. This role provides valuable exposure to privacy frameworks like GDPR or CCPA and offers hands-on experience with risk assessments and process improvements, which are highly relevant for a career in data privacy or compliance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data privacy intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Privacy Intern, you need foundational knowledge of privacy laws (such as GDPR and CCPA), data protection principles, and coursework or experience in information security or legal studies. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel, data mapping software, and privacy management platforms (e.g., OneTrust) is often required, and certifications like CIPP/US can be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you interpret complex regulations and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring compliance, protecting sensitive information, and supporting organizational privacy initiatives.

Job description

Enterprise Knowledge (EK) is hiring a full-time AI and Data Product Analyst to join our growing Semantic Engineering and AI Practice. In this role, you will help our clients organize their enterprise data to make it ready for next-generation AI solutions. While experience with semantic technologies (taxonomies, ontologies, metadata) is a major plus, it is not required-we are looking for a sharp, analytical thinker with 2-5 years of experience who is eager to learn how data structure powers modern AI. You'll work with Fortune 500 and global clients to develop strategies, guide implementation, and apply agile principles to translate business needs into clear, actionable plans.
As with all of our positions, we seek independent thinkers with exceptional written and oral communication skills. This position demands a deep understanding of business strategy and development, experience with knowledge & data management technology solutions, business analysis, and consulting skills.
As an EKer, you will join a fast-growing company that is committed to equity and inclusion, have the opportunity to work in a collaborative workplace, take advantage of our unique benefits, and help build our innovative culture. Responsibilities will include:
  • Support the design and implementation of enterprise knowledge, data management, and AI solutions
  • Assist in gathering and analyzing client requirements, business processes, and system landscapes
  • Contribute to the development of solution recommendations, documentation, and deliverables
  • Support workshops, stakeholder interviews, and working sessions to help define client needs and project goals
  • Assist in interpreting and documenting semantic models, taxonomies, ontologies, and related solutions
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project milestones and deliverables in an agile environment
  • Develop client-facing materials including presentations, reports, and training documentation
  • Participate in client meetings and internal discussions, contributing insights and taking detailed notes
  • Support testing, implementation, and validation of solutions to ensure alignment with client requirements
  • Contribute to internal initiatives, knowledge sharing, and practice development efforts
  • Continuously develop consulting, communication, and technical skills

Requirements
As a federal contractor, Enterprise Knowledge will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization, or offer any immigration related support for this position (i.e. H1B, F-1 OPT, F-1 STEM OPT, F-1 CPT, J-1, TN, E-2, E-3, L-1 and O-1, or any EADs or other forms of work authorization that require immigration support from an employer.
This hybrid role requires that you live within a comfortable, commutable distance of our Arlington, VA office and be willing to be on-site 3 days a week.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant experience (internships, academic projects, or early professional experience in consulting, data, or technology environments)
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Science, Data Analytics, Business, Computer Science, or similar)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Interest in knowledge management, data, AI, and semantic technologies

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Exposure to knowledge management, data management, or semantic technologies (through coursework, internships, or projects)
  • Familiarity with tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, JIRA, Confluence, or similar collaboration tools
  • Experience supporting research, data analysis, or business analysis efforts
  • Basic understanding of agile methodologies
  • Experience with taxonomy, ontology, or metadata concepts (academic or practical)
  • Interest in consulting, facilitation, or client-facing work
