We are currently seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Marketing and Communications to lead the development and execution of firmwide marketing initiatives that strengthen and elevate our brand across all platforms. This role is responsible for shaping and implementing an integrated marketing and communications strategy, including public relations, graphic design, digital and print content, and event programming, that supports go-to-market objectives, reinforces the firm's vision, culture, and strategic goals, and ensures consistent messaging across internal and external channels.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on marketing and communications leader with experience developing integrated marketing and communications strategies that strengthen brand positioning and support firmwide initiatives across multiple channels.

This position can be based in Cincinnati, OH; Columbus, OH; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; Indianapolis, IN; Los Angeles, CA; Louisville, KY; Nashville, TN; New York, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; or Washington, DC.

Key responsibilities:

  • Direct the development of visual and written content by collaborating with the CBDO, the creative team, the communications team, and external vendors to drive and support campaigns and collateral needs.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that strengthens the firm's brand, supports business objectives and firmwide strategic plan goals, and enhances market positioning across all channels.
  • Maintain high level oversight of internal and external communications, including web and social media content, firm announcements, intranet content, crisis communications, and executive messaging.
  • Oversee the planning, communication, and execution of large-scale internal and external events, including firmwide partner meetings, leadership symposiums, FBT Gibbons Connect series client events, etc.
  • Collaborate with the business development team, the proposal team, and attorneys as needed to support unique client engagement efforts through tailored messaging or collateral materials.
  • Advise senior leadership and attorneys on best practices for communications, media relations, and message positioning, including crisis communications, and act as the primary liaison between the firm and external partners, including media outlets, advertising agencies, and community organizations.
  • Manage the marketing communications budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to maximize impact.
  • Oversee dynamic, impactful, and innovative advertising and community outreach campaigns and initiatives that enhance the firm's profile in various industries, practices, and markets.
  • Ensure all communications comply with legal industry standards, ethics rules, and confidentiality and privacy requirements.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for all communications activities, regularly analyze performance data, and provide data-driven recommendations to optimize impact and maximize ROI.
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, professional associations, and networking events to build the firm's external profile and stay current with industry trends as appropriate/useful.
  • Maintain strong relationships with media representatives and external agencies as needed.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work culture by motivating employees, promoting teamwork, and maintaining high levels of engagement and job satisfaction.
  • Provide continuous coaching and mentorship to direct reports, offering constructive feedback to support professional growth and skill development.
  • Ensure adherence to firm policies and legal regulations while managing employee conduct and performance.

Job requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, communications or relevant field required.
  • Minimum of ten years of progressive marketing or business development experience required, along with prior experience in a law firm environment.
  • Experience leading creative and design projects, developing portfolios, and building communications campaigns required.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of client development and marketing principles within the professional services industry, with a preference for law firm experience.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and managing business professionals.
  • Ability to support multiple stakeholders at various levels, managing diverse needs and challenges simultaneously.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including active listening, information gathering, clear dialogue and problem solving.
  • Ability to interact, present, and make recommendations to the firm's senior leadership.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with keen attention to accuracy and detail.
  • High degree of professionalism when interacting with internal and external customers.
  • Independent, self-motivated, and capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to independently pursue and manage projects.

  • Proficient with both PC and Mac platforms.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed across the firm's national footprint. Weekend travel may be required from time to time. Travel time estimates are moderate (15-20%).

The pay range for this role accounts for the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the current annual range is $180,000 $210,000. For applicants physically based in Dallas, Denver, Houston or Philadelphia, a reasonable estimate of the current annual range is $200,000 - $230,000. For applicants physically based in California, New York City and Washington DC, a reasonable estimate of the current annual range is $220,000 $250,000. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, relevant experience and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable employment laws.
