Overview
Job Summary
Responsible for the execution of data management activities supporting the Baptist Cancer Center Thoracic Oncology Program, including data abstraction, auditing, reporting, and database maintenance. The Data Manager II serves as a key liaison between research staff, analysts, investigators, clinical staff, and leadership to ensure high-quality, compliant, and timely data collection and reporting across multiple clinical and research projects. Responsible for other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
  • Leads and performs daily data entry and management across multiple research databases, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to study protocols and timelines.
  • Implements data quality control procedures, including data validation, data cleaning, and data auditing in accordance with FDA, GCP, ICH, HIPAA, and IRB guidelines
  • Collaborates with research and clinical teams to interpret and verify data accuracy, resolve discrepancies, and support study analyses.
  • Designs, updates, and tests research databases to support program needs.
  • Prepares and maintains detailed documentation, including data entry SOPs, patient master lists, data flow processes, and audit trails.
  • Assists in preparing datasets, reports, and data summaries for internal meetings, publications, and regulatory submissions.
  • Trains and mentors new data staff on research data systems, standard operating procedures, and study-specific workflows.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on data management practices within the Thoracic Oncology Research Group, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of data requirements, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Effectively manages time, prioritizes responsibilities, and multitasks while working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrates initiative and strong problem-solving ability.
Specifications Experience Description Minimum Required Preferred/Desired 1-2 years of experience with data management, research coordination, or clinical medical record or data systems, or cancer registry systems, or CT imaging, oncology nursing, or clinical quality/regulatory, or clinical documentation, or compliance, or health information management in a healthcare or research setting. 3+ years, preferably in oncology, thoracic disease, or clinical research.
Education Description Minimum Required Preferred/Desired Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (e.g., associate degree plus additional relevant experience). Bachelor's degree in health science, public health, nursing, radiologic technology, health information management, healthcare quality, or related field.
Training Description Minimum Required Preferred/Desired Training or coursework in clinical research, or clinical medical record or data systems, or database management, or nursing, or accredited radiologic technology program, or cancer registry databases, or clinical documentation specialist, or health information management, or medical coding, or healthcare quality Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP), Clinical Data Management (CDM) certification, Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification, Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), ARRT(R)(CT), Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), or equivalent;
Special Skills Description Minimum Required Preferred/Desired Proficiency in Microsoft 365, and clinical medical record and/or data systems; understanding of medical terminology, disease process, anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology, and oncology clinical and research data. Experience with REDCap, Epic, or other EHR/clinical data systems; tumor registry systems, quality and regulatory compliance; SQL or data query skills a plus.
