Under the direction of the Senior Director of Institutional Research and Data Science, the Manager supports the development and implementation of a campus-wide data science program directed at meeting the management and information needs of academic and administrative units across campus.  

Duties include:  

Supervision & Leadership: Supervise a team, oversee work plans and assign tasks to Analysts regarding the development of data tables and statistical models, and perform detailed code reviews of SQL and data workflows authored by data scientists;

Advanced Statistical Modeling & AI: Serve as the institution's expert for statistical modeling (including Bayesian, frequentist, data mining, artificial intelligence, and machine learning), and design, develop, and validate predictive statistical models, specifically for student enrollment management and institutional forecasting;

Data Architecture & Engineering: Design, implement, and evaluate scalable data models using SQL on Amazon Redshift, and collaborate with Data Engineering and ETL teams to modernize the enterprise data reporting platform; and

Strategic Planning & Analysis: Act as the lead person in developing analysis supporting University business practices, build novel data views to facilitate measurement of institutional progress, and meet with functional users (Deans, Directors, Officers) to determine business practices that drive standard production reports.

Additional duties include:

Data Integration & Quality: Oversee the integration of data from external national databases (IPEDS, Common Data Set) and internal systems (Student, Finance, HR), and ensure data accuracy and consistency with production systems;

Reporting & Dashboards: Contribute to Tableau dashboard development for internal and external reporting and provide accurate data sources to assist the Institutional Research team in developing standard reports; and

Ad Hoc Request Management: Respond to complex ad hoc requests for information from senior academic administrators and faculty; provide user assistance and maintain technical documentation.  

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field and 5 years of experience with data governance in a higher education context. Experience must include working with Tableau, SQL, IPEDS/Common Data Set Standards, Amazon Redshift, and Oracle PeopleSoft. Limited telework permitted: must be on-site one day per week.
