What Is a Data Management Analyst?

A data management analyst is responsible for maintaining databases. In this position, your responsibilities are to keep an eye on how secure the data is and look for ways to increase user efficiency when accessing it. For example, you might move the database to an online cloud-based server to free up system resources. A data management analyst has to have a solid grasp of network technology, in addition to familiarity with database and spreadsheet software, to perform the duties of the job.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Data Management, and why are they important?

To excel in Data Management, you need a strong background in data analysis, database design, and data governance, often supported by a degree in computer science or information systems. Familiarity with database management systems (like SQL, Oracle), data visualization tools, and certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) are highly valued. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and strong organizational skills help professionals ensure data integrity and facilitate effective collaboration. These competencies are crucial for maintaining accurate, secure, and accessible data, which underpins informed business decision-making.

Job description

Item Data Management Expert
Full-time | Location - Olathe, KS 66062
The Item Data Maintenance Expert serves as the technical anchor for our master data team. You will take ownership of complex data challenges, acting as the primary point of escalation for data integrity issues. By leveraging data analysis, SQL skills and deep entity knowledge, you will ensure our item and item relationship data remains world-class while mentoring junior team members.
YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Ownership: Manage and audit complex clusters of item master data unique to the TVH Americas context to ensure accuracy.
Technical Problem Solving: Act as the escalation point for the maintenance team. You will perform deep-dive analyses into data discrepancies and architect "permanent fixes" rather than temporary patches.
Querying & Reporting: Develop and execute SQL/BigQuery scripts to retrieve technical information. Coordinate the Business Intelligence and Data Engineering teams to create actionable data insights.
Stakeholder Collaboration: Represent the data team in meetings with departmental leadership. You will communicate project progress, explain data outcomes, and provide insights to support high-level decision-making.
Quality Assurance: Design and execute testing scenarios, including regression tests, to validate that system changes or bulk uploads haven't compromised data integrity.
Mentorship: Serve as the "technical guide" for Level I Professionals and Data Entry Admins. You will share best practices on tooling and help them optimize their daily workflows.
Process Optimization: Identify "bottlenecks" in how we process ingest, enrich and cleanse data, suggesting and implementing automated or improved workflows.
HOW TO SUCCEED / YOUR PROFILE
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Data Analytics, Supply Chain, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: 3-5 years of experience in data maintenance, master data management, or a technical data coordinator role.
Proven Track Record: Experience managing "clusters" of data and interacting with cross-functional teams (Sales, Purchasing, IT).
Technical Proficiency: SQL or BigQuery skills are required. You should be comfortable writing queries to join tables, filter data, and extract insights.
Data Analysis: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, etc.) and experience with ERP business systems.
Communication: Ability to translate technical data findings into clear, actionable summaries for non-technical stakeholders and executives.
Supply Chain Knowledge: A solid understanding of supply chain, purchasing concepts, and how item data affects the broader business.
Attention to Detail: A "detective" mindset-you enjoy finding the "why" behind a data error.
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
You'll be part of a people-centric culture where your well-being truly matters. Our comprehensive benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with unique perks like an onsite health clinic and an exceptional dollar-for-dollar 401(k) match up to 6%.
At our headquarters, you'll enjoy an onsite preschool, a full-service restaurant, and access to an onsite gym to help you stay active and energized. We also foster connection through regular team events and a collaborative, welcoming environment.
