Job Description

The IT Data Manager is responsible for the governance, quality, security, and lifecycle management of enterprise data across the organization's manufacturing, supply chain, finance, and business systems. This role leads the development and execution of data governance standards, master data management (MDM), data quality initiatives, and data integration strategies to ensure accurate, consistent, and reliable information throughout the enterprise.

Working closely with Information Technology, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering, Commercial, and Business Process Owners (BPOs), the IT Data Manager develops processes that improve data integrity, support operational excellence, and enable informed business decision-making. The position serves as a key liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams to ensure enterprise data assets are effectively managed and aligned with organizational objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain enterprise data governance policies, standards, procedures, and best practices.
  2. Manage the organization's Master Data Management (MDM) strategy, including customer, vendor, item, bill of materials (BOM), routing, inventory, manufacturing, and financial master data.
  3. Establish data ownership, stewardship, and accountability across business functions.
  4. Define and monitor key data quality metrics, identify trends, and lead initiatives to improve data accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness.
  5. Develop and maintain data standards, naming conventions, validation rules, and metadata documentation.
  6. Partner with Business Process Owners and functional leaders to design efficient data maintenance processes and approval workflows.
  7. Lead data cleansing, migration, and conversion activities for ERP implementations, upgrades, acquisitions, and business transformation initiatives.
  8. Manage enterprise data integrations between ERP, MES, WMS, CRM, PLM, quality systems, business intelligence platforms, and other enterprise applications.
  9. Collaborate with application administrators, developers, and infrastructure teams to ensure data architecture supports current and future business requirements.
  10. Develop data governance roadmaps that support digital transformation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  11. Establish and monitor controls to ensure compliance with internal policies, SOX requirements, cybersecurity standards, privacy regulations, and audit requirements.
  12. Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, evidence, and process controls related to enterprise data.
  13. Develop dashboards, scorecards, and reporting to monitor data quality, governance compliance, and operational performance.
  14. Evaluate and implement data management technologies, automation tools, and governance platforms.
  15. Coordinate data-related activities during mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and organizational restructuring.
  16. Maintain enterprise data dictionaries, business glossaries, data lineage, and system documentation.
  17. Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for recurring data quality issues.
  18. Develop and deliver user training on data governance policies, master data processes, and data management tools.
  19. Collaborate with cybersecurity and infrastructure teams to implement role-based access controls, segregation of duties, and data security best practices.
  20. Manage relationships with software vendors, implementation partners, and consultants supporting enterprise data initiatives.
  21. Participate in project planning, system implementations, and cross-functional initiatives requiring data analysis and governance.
  22. Identify opportunities to automate manual data processes and improve operational efficiency.
  23. Stay current on emerging technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements related to enterprise data management.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May supervise Data Analysts or Data Architects.
  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to project teams and business data owners.
  • Leads cross-functional governance committees and enterprise data initiatives.
Qualifications

Required Education, Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, Business Administration, Engineering or related field.
  • Three or more years of progressive experience in enterprise data management, ERP administration, business systems, or information technology.ย 
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, supply chain, or industrial operations.
  • Strong understanding of Master Data Management (MDM) principles and data governance frameworks.
  • Experience working with ERP systems such as JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or Infor.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing master data including items, BOMs, routings, work centers, inventory, costing, and production planning.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with ETL processes, APIs, system integrations, and data migration.
  • Strong understanding of reporting and business intelligence platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of data quality management techniques and data profiling tools.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, identity management, and role-based security.
  • Understanding of SOX compliance, change management, and audit controls.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Education Experience, Skills and Abilities

  • Master's degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent certification.
  • ITIL Foundation certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience implementing enterprise data governance programs.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or similar cloud data platforms.
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Experience supporting Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma initiatives.
