Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary:
The Office of Decision Support and Data Integrity (ODSDI) is inviting applications from currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students for the Advanced Data Literacy Associate position on the team. ODSDI provides data reporting and analytics support to campus leaders for strategic planning and decision-making by engaging with business units and the colleges to improve data collection, documentation, and related processes.
The Advanced Data Literacy Associate will support the ODSDI team by helping to organize, document, and maintain data definitions and a comprehensive data dictionary. This role will assist in ensuring accurate, consistent, and accessible data across the institution, supporting reporting, compliance, and data-driven decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have high-level data management and organization skills, basic data analytical skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word), willingness to learn new tools as needed for the work, and strong attention to detail. The student will gain hands-on experience with institutional data, learn how data informs decision-making, and contribute to projects that support leadership, academic departments, and strategic planning.
Tasks will include documenting data sources and definitions for dashboards and reports, and assisting with data validation and standardization. This role provides a great opportunity for students interested in institutional research, data analytics, or data-driven decision support.
Key Responsibilities:
• Compile and maintain a comprehensive data dictionary for institutional datasets
• Set up "About the dashboard" tabs for the existing and any newly built dashboards, leveraging the data dictionary
• Document processes, data definitions, formats, and sources, in Microsoft Excel or Word
• Review and update existing data documentation for accuracy and consistency
• Support the standardization of data across institutional reporting systems
• Assist with basic data validation, cleaning, and analysis tasks
• Collaborate with ODSDI staff to gather data-related information from various departments
• Ensure all documentation follows internal formatting and quality standards
Required Qualifications:
• Current student enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at the University
• Prior project or internship related experience performing similar data management and compilation work
• Basic understanding of data concepts (fields, tables, data types, datasets)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Good written and verbal communication skills
Must be available to work in-person 15-20 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, during regular business hours
