Job description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

Reporting to the Public Engagement & Planning Manager, this role supports community engagement efforts within the Planning and Public Engagement Department. The position is primarily responsible for assisting with public canvassing initiatives related to service changes, programs, and projects. Working collaboratively with internal staff, the incumbent helps implement outreach strategies designed to engage riders and community members, raise public awareness, and gather valuable feedback on agency proposals and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support staff in executing a variety of community outreach and public engagement canvassing efforts.
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and organization of canvassing sessions and special events.
  • Distribute informational materials and gather public feedback, comments, and data.
  • Provide logistical and administrative support to project teams during outreach events and related programs.
  • Assist with analyzing feedback and data to evaluate the effectiveness of engagement strategies.
  • Maintain and update records, including spreadsheets, schedules, and contact lists using Excel.
  • Help keep community members informed about service changes, upcoming events, and agency initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support departmental goals.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED

  • Associate degree in journalism, public administration, political science, communications, public affairs, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, including availability on evenings and weekends for community engagement activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly convey complex information to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience working or volunteering with grassroots or community-based organizations is highly desirable.
  • Excellent time-management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and other spreadsheet tools.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and visual communication skills with the ability to effectively engage and inform the public.

An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

Working Conditions:

Works in an office environment where there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or extreme temperatures. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting operating facilities, during which the incumbent should observe all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and use all protective clothing and devices provided.

Physical Requirements:

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
