Title: Associate Dean of Students for Community Standards and Academic IntegrityDepartment:Student Affairs & Dean of StudentsReports To:Senior Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of StudentsPosition Summary:Working with supervision from the VPSADOS, the Associate Dean is responsible for supporting campus life and campus climate, the development and academic progress of students, and retention initiatives. The Associate Dean is also primarily responsible for the processing and adjudication of the Student Code of Conduct and Academic Integrity cases for students. This position works closely with academic departments and serves on several campus wide committees.
Essential FunctionsInvestigates and adjudicates student conduct and academic integrity violations. Investigate complaints by interviewing involved parties. Decides the appropriate course of action and prepares an investigation report and statement of charges; informs and advises the accused, without bias, of charges, evidence, and procedures. Prepares case material for the Student Conduct Board and presents the case before the committee.
Follow up to ensure that the appropriate correspondence or records have been written or created.
Recruits, trains, supervises, and develops the Hearing and Development Officer.
Regularly assesses the effectiveness of the program; develops and facilitates regular presentations and workshops for the campus community.
Oversees the recruitment, training, and evaluation of all Hearing Board members and Conduct Advisors.
Reviews and develops policies and procedures impacting students' behavior within and outside the classroom. Identifies policies and procedures within student services that need to be revised or replaced.
Works with faculty, administrative, and student groups to recommend or approve changes and publishes new policies and procedures in student handbooks or other media.
Provides data analysis, conducts advising interviews, serves on university committees as a member and/or resource, coordinates the student appeals process, and coordinates staff effort on these activities.
Coordinates and provides academic support and advice for students placed on academic probation, suspension, or re-admission.
Provides individual assistance to students to support academic improvement, progress toward graduation, and the university's educational mission.
Serves as a liaison between students and college officials and faculty members in resolving academic and personal concerns. Conducts individual interviews with students, faculty, staff, parents, and others; provides follow-up correspondence; and makes final decisions to uphold or accept policies carried out by other offices.
Studies, initiates, and coordinates university wide efforts to increase student retention. Monitors campus retention issues and trends, making adjustments on an ongoing basis.
Ensures compliance with FERPA for student conduct records contained in the Office of the Dean of Students, the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership (OSIL), and the Office of Residence Life by supervising the maintenance, security, and proper disclosure of such records.
Provides certification for agencies requesting student conduct information, in accordance with FERPA.
Acts as a Title IX Hearing Administrator or Investigator.
Shares responsibility with the Senior Associate Dean to represent the Dean when designated.
Assists with supervising departments reporting to the Office of the Dean of Students, specifically the Office of Residence Life.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field is required; a doctorate is preferred.
Seven years of experience in problem-solving in a university setting, demonstrating progressively increased student and administrative responsibilities, particularly in the area of academic misconduct adjudication and related processes.
Five years of experience supervising full-time staff.
Demonstrated experience investigating and managing student conduct and academic integrity cases, including appeals.
Demonstrated understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their impact on higher education, including academic integrity, student conduct processes, student support services, and administrative operations. Ability to evaluate emerging AI-related issues, interpret AI-generated evidence appropriately, and contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and educational initiatives related to the responsible use of AI.
Demonstrated effectiveness as a culturally competent professional with broad experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population.
A high level of collegiality in working with other student affairs units as well as campus and community constituencies, along with the ability to build collaborative relationships characterized by mutual respect, trust, and commitment to shared goals.
Highly effective in all aspects of crisis management, including the ability to collaborate with others in managing crises.
Demonstrated experience as a manager of complex organizational processes; demonstrated ability to analyze data to drive decisions.
Effective in setting priorities and deadlines to ensure project goals and objectives are met.
Demonstrated problem-solving and time management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Must be flexible in work hours and able to work some nights and weekends.
A doctorate is preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX; previous experience investigating, adjudicating, and/or advising Title IX complaints; and/or experience with outreach and prevention efforts.
Proficiency with the Maxient conduct tracking database is also preferred.
Experience developing policies, procedures, educational programs, or operational practices related to the use of artificial intelligence in higher education.
$100,000 - $115,000
.At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Range:Non-Aligned -8NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items.
