Job description

We are seeking a reliable Medical Records Technician to organize, update, and protect patient medical records. You will play a crucial role behind the scenes by verifying patient data, inputting information into our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, and ensuring that all health records remain compliant with HIPAA guidelines and legal standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains and updates patient records, which include medical histories, treatments and examinations.
  • Scan paper documents into the database and index them accurately into the correct patient charts.
  • Process medical record requests for authorized personnel, insurance providers, and other facilities, ensuring strict HIPAA compliance.
  • Review patient records for deficiencies, resolve data discrepancies, and merge duplicate accounts.
  • Serve as a liaison between healthcare providers and staff regarding the availability of patient records.
  • Assembles medical charts and prepares them for the units.
  • Routinely collects all discharged patient medical records as to ensure all records are secured in the Health Information Department.
  • Answers incoming calls in a timely manner and responds to callerโ€™s needs. Return calls left on voicemail within 24 hours.
  • Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with the other departments of the facility.
  • Schedule is Monday - Friday from 7:30am - 4:00pm

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of administrative or health records experience.
  • Proficiency with software and/or equipment (Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology preferred.
  • Comfortable navigating Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software.
