Job Summary/Overall Objectives
The Food Institute (FI) Technician supports the Food Institute by assisting the Nutrition Health Liaison with essential tasks that contribute to operations helping food insecure patients. This position also supports the Lifestyle Coaching (LC) Program Manager with essential tasks to enroll clients in LC events and facilitate Zoom classes for chronic disease management. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, receiving food shipments, rotating inventory, data entry, contacting patients upon referral, enrolling clients in LC programs, scheduling patients for FI appointments, conducting food demonstrations, and transporting food shares to patient vehicles. The position may include travel to other BHS or community locations.
Essential Job Functions
  • Retrieves referrals for FI and LC, calls patients to set appointments for the FI, registers patients/clients for LC events, and performs follow-up communication at the direction of the LC Program Manager and Nutrition Health Liaison.
  • Receives and rotates food and supply inventory, performs food safety protocols, portions food, assembles food share bags for patient appointments and transports food share to the patient's vehicle as needed.
  • Maintains LC class rosters, schedules and facilitates virtual classes, sends class materials prior to classes, conducts class surveys, and provides follow up communication at the direction of the LC Manager.
  • Performs data entry into selected spreadsheets, the FI and LC Share file, and uses the Electronic Health Record at the direction of the Nutrition Health Liaison and LC Manager.
  • Supports FI and LC community events with food demonstrations, facilitates virtual and in-person classes, and conducts first patient visits at the FI under direction of Nutrition Health Liaison.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competency and Experience [Knowledge, Skills and Abilities]
Required Qualifications/Experience (please add any additional requirements)
  • High School Diploma, GED or higher level of education.
  • 6 months of experience in use of electronic patient and/or data entry tools, patient/customer service, or health related patient interaction.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience (please add any additional requirements)
  • Associate's Degree in Nutrition on a health related field
  • Experience in Healthcare setting.

License, Certification & Clearances (please add any additional requirements)
  • Current ServSafe Certification or must obtain within three months of hire/transfer.
  • Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system
