Job description

Position Summary Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency calls using a multi-line phone system; screen, evaluate, provide assistance, coordinate and disseminate critical information via specialized computer and communication systems, and/or refer calls to the appropriate person/department; perform multiple activities simultaneously by responding to communications and events while maintaining precision, accuracy and swift response times; work in a team setting while receiving training and coaching from various sources; complete NCIC checks and perform other technical tasks related to the assigned area of responsibility. This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing. Telecommunication Operator I C1 (Non-Certified) $24.36 - $25.60 Hourly Telecommunication Operator I C1C (Certified) Possess a valid New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification $26.36 - $27.60 Hourly Job descriptions are intended to present a general list of tasks/duties performed by employees within this job classification

Job Descriptions are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. High school diploma or GED; and Combination of two (2) years of data entry, multi-line phone or customer service experience.

Processing public service calls in a law enforcement, open space or fire agency is preferred. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid certified typing test issued by a state agency, county agency or an accredited educational institution with a minimum score of forty (40) net WPM. The typing test must have occurred within the last 12 months.

Local typing tests may be taken Monday - Friday 8am to 3:30pm at the following locations: America's Job Center of ABQ, 501 Mountain Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 OR America's Job Center of Rio Rancho, 4061 Ridge Rock Rd, Rio Rancho, NM 87124. Must pass Drug Test, Hearing Test, Criminal Records check, and Background check. Must pass CritiCall computer-based assessment.

Must be able to work holidays, weekends, irregular hours and shift work may be required with possible extension of shift hours, at times with short notice. Possession of National Incident Management System (NIMS) Certification preferred. Possession of National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification within six (6) months from date of hire.

One (1) year probationary period is required for this position. For Telecommunication Operator I C1 (Non-Certified): Possession of a New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within one (1) year from date of hire. For Telecommunication Operator I C1C (Certified): Possession of a New Mexico Department of Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification.

Working Conditions Environmental: 24/7 emergency dispatch center operation setting; secure indoor environment, exposure to computer screens; frequent exposure to noise levels which may cause distractions; work in confined spaces, irregular work hours and shifts.
