Description

The Data Engineering Manager is a hands‑on, player‑coach leadership role responsible for guiding and developing a team of approximately six data engineers. This individual will serve as both a people leader and a technical lead, driving execution on large‑scale, foundational data initiatives while ensuring consistency, quality, and best practices across the engineering organization.

This role exists due to continued growth within the data organization and the need for dedicated leadership to support engineers, drive delivery, and take ownership of major initiatives. The manager will frequently act as the technical lead on complex projects, owning execution, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring projects move forward efficiently.

The Data Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with business partners, project managers, architects, and analytics teams to deliver scalable, reliable data solutions that support analytics, reporting, and data science. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, the ability to influence without authority, and a team‑first leadership mindset.

This position reports to the director, and allows the broader leadership team to focus on strategic initiatives while this role ensures delivery excellence across data engineering efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of Data Engineers.

Technical Guidance: Provide expert guidance on analytical techniques, ETL/ELT patterns, project planning, and complex problem-solving.

Performance Management: Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance reviews to ensure team alignment and growth.

Development: Identify and recommend professional development opportunities to keep the team current with cutting-edge technologies.

Strategic Delivery: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of data infrastructure projects that align with business objectives.

Stakeholder Partnership: Partner with leadership across departments (e.g., Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations) to translate their needs into technical roadmaps.

Project Oversight: Define project scope, timelines, and key performance indicators (KPIs) while leading development efforts on medium to large projects.

Communication: Present data insights, architectural recommendations, and project status to leadership in a clear and compelling manner.

Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain secure data pipelines to transfer data from various sources to a data mart or lakehouse.

Integration: Develop integrations with specific SaaS applications such as Acumatica, Workday, Salesforce, and ServiceNow.

Data Quality: Implement and monitor data quality checks to identify and rectify inconsistencies, ensuring accuracy and validity.

Database Administration: Administer and optimize databases to ensure maximum availability, performance, and security.

Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve data-related issues promptly to minimize system downtime.

Data Technologies: PowerBI, Dell Boomi, Apache Kafka, Apache Spark

Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative field. Master's degree is a plus.

Experience: 5+ years of direct work experience in data engineering, software development, or a related role. Minimum of 2+ years of experience leading and managing a team of technology professionals.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58.00 - $72.00/hr.
