Job description

The process engineer position is responsible for determining operations to produce products and develops processes to ensure quality, cost and efficiency requirements are met. This position troubleshoots problems with production and takes corrective action. The process engineer also researches the purchase of equipment or upgrades to existing equipment. This position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products. This position works directly with quality, analyzing manufacturing processes for improvement using various methods of testing and inspection.
Duties / Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate, implement and monitor processes and operating systems for manufacturing.
  • Create/edit/maintain necessary documentation.
  • Equipment calibration and maintenance monitoring.
  • Monitor and improve the efficiency, output, and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data.
  • Assume responsibility for safety/environmental issues and ongoing performance of processes.
  • Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, project management, and training.
  • Improves manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement and efficiency.
  • Assists plant manager in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, and training.
  • Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
  • Coordinates the manufacturing launch of new/revised products including establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
  • Designs, develops and tests and/or sources and cost-justifies various tools, machinery and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
  • Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Review customer source control drawings, specification control drawings and other applicable specifications to determine requirements and/or feasibility of the component.
  • Interact with production personnel to define and solve manufacturing/design issues and implement cost reduction ideas with regard to company products.
  • Work with the quality department to define problem areas and implement product improvements based on customer repair/rejection concerns.
  • Prepare technical data such as qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, reports, component maintenance manuals, etc.
  • Develop, apply and maintain quality requirements and standards for development and manufacturing products.
  • Design and implement methods for process control, process improvement, testing and inspection.
  • Promote and execute quality standards, inspection processes, test methodology, quality plans, documents and reports.
  • Assist in process certification.
  • Participate in internal and external quality audits.
  • Interface with supplier and customer quality representatives concerning problems with quality assurance and assure that effective corrective action is implemented.

Requirements
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Internship or co-op experience in manufacturing preferred
  • Proficient in the use of CAD software.
  • Experience with quality systems
  • Experience with a flying knife cutter and CNC Machine

Other Information:
This is a full-time, exempt position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
