Job description

The Persistent Surveillance Division at Leidos is seeking a motivated Engineering Intern - Radar Signal Processing to join our team in Huntsville, AL. This is an in-person position. The ideal candidate will be enrolled in an Engineering, Physics, or Computer Science program and interested in applying their skills to real-world engineering challenges.

As an intern in this role, you will gain hands-on experience in sensing technologies, electro-optics, and high performing computing. We are looking for someone with strong technical aptitude, curiosity, and the ability to think critically about engineering systems.

If you have a passion for building codes and tools that support advanced sensor technologies-and a drive to learn and contribute-this is an excellent opportunity.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers to translate technical requirements into clear, maintainable software or simulation functionality.
  • Support integration of engineering models, simulations, and data into the application.
  • Demonstrate initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn new tools, frameworks, and engineering concepts.
  • Maintain clear communication with mentors and team members to ensure alignment with project goals.
  • Represent Leidos professionally and uphold company values.
  • Prepare and present an end-of-summer poster summarizing your contributions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • US Citizen
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Currently enrolled in a STEM degree program in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related discipline at an accredited University
  • Experience with programming languages such as Matlab, C++, Python, CUDA, Rust, or similar
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Ability to write clear documentation and communicate technical ideas effectively
  • Interest in applying programming skills to engineering / sensing applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to electrical engineering principles such as electromagnetics, digital signal processing, antenna theory, linear algebra, etc.
  • Familiarity and experience with developing simulation tools or algorithms related to radar systems and/or digital communication platforms
  • Familiarity and experience with Linux operating system environments
  • Familiarity with Git/Gitlab, Subversion, or other similar version control software platforms
