Job description

About the Role
Data Capital Inc. is seeking a Banner Data Conversion and Migration Lead to oversee the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of 29 years of legacy Ellucian Banner data into a new cloud ERP platform at a large R1 public university in Virginia. This is a high-visibility, critical workstream role โ€” data conversion is among the most complex components of this implementation.

What You''''ll Do

  • Lead end-to-end data conversion strategy for Banner Finance and HCM data migration to the target cloud ERP
  • Analyze Banner database schema (Oracle RDBMS) โ€” tables, relationships, custom columns, and locally developed data structures
  • Develop and maintain data mapping documentation โ€” source Banner fields to target ERP fields across all modules
  • Identify and remediate legacy data quality issues โ€” duplicates, orphaned records, invalid codes accumulated since 1997
  • Manage multiple mock conversion cycles โ€” plan, execute, validate, and track resolution
  • Support cutover planning โ€” final conversion sequencing, blackout period, and go-live data validation

What You Need

  • 5+ years experience with Ellucian Banner data structures โ€” Finance and HCM Oracle database schema
  • Hands-on Banner data extraction experience โ€” SQL, PL/SQL, Banner APIs, or Banner Extensibility
  • Prior experience leading or supporting a Banner data migration or ERP conversion project
  • Strong data analysis and data quality assessment skills
  • Experience with ETL tools and data transformation methodologies
  • Strong documentation skills โ€” data mapping specs, conversion runbooks, validation reports

Nice to Have

  • Direct experience at a Virginia public university (VT, UVA, VCU, GMU, ODU)
  • Knowledge of VT-specific Banner customizations and locally developed enhancements
  • Experience with legacy data remediation and historical data archiving strategies
  • Familiarity with Banner Document Management and imaging systems

Secondary Skills:

13. Data Quality Assessment
14. Legacy Data Remediation
15. ERP Migration
16. Data Validation
17. Higher Education ERP
