What is a data conversion consultant?

Data Conversion Consultants are professionals who help organizations migrate data from one system, format, or platform to another. They analyze the existing data, plan the conversion process, and use specialized tools or scripts to ensure accurate and secure transfer. These consultants also address compatibility issues, verify data integrity, and troubleshoot problems during the migration. Their expertise is essential in projects like software upgrades, mergers, or system integrations, where maintaining data quality is critical.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data conversion consultant?

To thrive as a Data Conversion Consultant, you need expertise in data migration, database management, and understanding of data structures, usually supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools, scripting languages like SQL or Python, and experience with data conversion software are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help ensure smooth collaboration with clients and technical teams. These skills are crucial for ensuring accurate, efficient, and secure data transitions during system upgrades or migrations.

What are some common challenges faced by data conversion consultants during large-scale system migrations?

Data Conversion Consultants often encounter challenges such as ensuring data integrity, handling data discrepancies between legacy and new systems, and meeting tight project deadlines. Large-scale migrations can involve complex data mapping and extensive validation processes to ensure that no critical information is lost or corrupted. Effective communication and close collaboration with IT, business stakeholders, and end-users are essential for resolving unexpected issues and ensuring a smooth transition. Staying organized and proactive in addressing potential pitfalls helps mitigate risks and maintain project timelines.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we're combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.

Pursuant to applicable Fair Chance law, Workday will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.

Workday is an Equal Opportunity Employer including individuals with disabilities and protected veterans.

At Workday, we are committed to providing an accessible and inclusive hiring experience where all candidates can fully demonstrate their skills. If you require assistance or an accommodation at any point, please email accommodations@workday.com.
