Job Title: Data Center Engineer

Location: Remote

Department: Infrastructure / IT Operations
Reports To: Data Center Manager / Director of IT Infrastructure

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Data Center Engineer to support the daily operations, maintenance, and performance of our data center infrastructure. This role is essential to ensuring the availability, scalability, and physical security of mission-critical IT systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in server hardware, networking, power and cooling systems, and data center best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Infrastructure Management: Install, configure, and maintain servers, storage systems, and networking hardware in data center environments.

  • Monitoring & Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and proactive maintenance on data center systems including HVAC, UPS, generators, PDUs, and cabling infrastructure.

  • Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and resolve hardware and network issues; coordinate with vendors for support and part replacements when necessary.

  • Capacity Planning: Monitor system capacity (power, cooling, space) and work with engineering teams to plan for growth or upgrades.

  • Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of physical and logical infrastructure, network diagrams, and change management records.

  • Security & Compliance: Enforce data center physical security policies and procedures; support audits and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA).

  • Operational Support: Provide hands-on support during deployments, migrations, or maintenance windows, often outside of standard business hours.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with system admins, network engineers, and IT leadership to support broader infrastructure initiatives.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • 3+ years of experience working in a data center or infrastructure support environment.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of server hardware (rack and blade systems), storage systems (SAN/NAS), and enterprise networking equipment.

  • Familiarity with power and cooling systems, including UPS, CRAC units, generators, and PDUs.

  • Experience with structured cabling standards and best practices.

  • Working knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and monitoring tools.

  • Proficiency in using remote management tools (iLO, DRAC, IPMI).

Certifications Required

  • Cisco, VMware, or Microsoft certifications a plus

  • Experience with hybrid cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP).

  • Knowledge of data center automation and DCIM tools.

  • Ability to lift and install equipment up to 50 lbs, with safety precautions.
