Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm

Location: Des Moines, IA 

Job Summary:

Performs electrical apparatus work onsite at customers facilities.  This includes electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs to electrical apparatus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·       Assist in the execution of mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment utilized in power transmission, distribution, and generation at customer facilities.

·       Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and writing diagrams to troubleshoot and solve equipment problems.

·       Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and clean all components in a substation.

·       Ability to assist in the following tests:

o   Transformer Testing – Power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge, and leakage reactance.

o   Cable Testing – Insulation resistance, tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge, and cable thumper

o   Circuit Breaker Testing – Insulation resistance, contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 gas analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection testing, and vacuum bottle integrity testing.

·       Participate in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.

·       Participates in safety meetings and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

·       Familiarize with industry standards such as NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA compliance standards, safety laws, and DOT regulations.

·       Ability to assist in complex mechanical and electrical problems.

·       Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

·       Must have strong PC skills including email, internet, data entry, and Microsoft Office.

·       Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet goals and deadlines.

·       Doble DTAF and Power DB knowledge is preferred, training will be provided.

·       Has demonstrated the ability to be consistently on time for daily work assignments, meetings, training, etc.

·       Demonstrates organizational skills to include on time reporting of time and expenses, weekly status reports, and any other documentation and reporting requirements.

·       Demonstrates the responsibility required to keep tools, test equipment, and vehicles in clean and organized condition and up to date with service and calibrations.

 Work Environment:

·       Must be willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.

·       Corporate business hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm, but depending on the scope of works hours outside of business hours will be required.

·       Work in close, but safe, proximity to live electrical substations.

·       Must be able to work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.

·       Must be able to travel on overnight, multi-day, out-of-town projects.

·       Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.

Education and Work Experience:

·       Requires a High School Diploma or GED.  Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology, or Military experience is preferred but not required.

·       Experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning is preferred, but not required.

·       This role is considered an introductory position to the industry.  Other useful experience would include but is not limited to a mechanical aptitude and an attitude ripe for learning.

Other Requirements:

·       Must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.

·       Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, as well as periodic, unannounced random testing.

·       Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain an endorsement to operate a combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs.

·       Must be able to lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.

·       Must be willing to obtain a company paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
