Job description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for the set up and operation of the folder/gluer machine in accordance with the apprentice training plan and objectives. Works with assigned trainer to achieve proficiency of all objectives, ensuring high-quality packaging and products are produced at a consistent rate of speed in accordance with machine standards and production goals.


SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates the machine in a safe manner and notifies supervision of any unsafe conditions that might exist
  • Receives instruction from trainer and performs duties necessary to become proficient in all learning objectives and milestones outlined in the apprenticeship training plan; operates machine in a safe and consistent manner, while maintaining standard operating procedure; advises Supervisor or trainer on information regarding the performance of the production run and/or machine crew.
  • Learns to safely start up and stop the machine and make machine adjustments in order to safely maintain machine at production and quality standards within target speeds
  • Learns procedures necessary to set up jobs on machine to precise measurements and alignments following the training plan within allotted time for next production run
  • At the beginning of each shift, reviews previous shift's report to determine status of run, issues with a job or the equipment and schedule information
  • Logs productivity and provides comments for each production job in the manufacturing computer system; accurately completes production report and records production data; sets up and uses various scanners as needed
  • Responsible for performing all quality checks and procedures and ensures quality of the product meets all standards and customer specifications with regard to folding, gluing, packaging, labeling, and stacking, including scrap defects; notifies Trainer or Supervisor of any discrepancies or areas of concern
  • Observes feeder packers to be sure that the proper count is going into the cases and are packed to customer specifications; assists with providing instruction and guides activities of feeder packers when necessary
  • Learns to troubleshoot, diagnose, and assists in repair of machine malfunctions;
  • Reviews and understands all preventative maintenance responsibilities of an operator; learns proper procedures to perform routine cleaning and maintenance
  • Ensures that finished products with defects are properly scrapped and discarded

  • Communicates well with other team members
  • Actively seeks improvements and updates to processes, new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation; proactively

  • Performs work in a manner that keeps down time to a minimum
  • Maintains a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems
  • Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; uses situational awareness and actively looks for weak signals to identify unsafe behaviors and conditions; consistently wears appropriate PPE for the task at hand and within the assigned area.
  • May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
