The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2026. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $31.21 - $44.23 per hour.
This position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

Distinguishing Features of Work
An employee in this class is responsible for obtaining, compiling, analyzing, and distributing crime data. Duties include conducting research, evaluating data, establishing patterns and trends, preparing documents and reports with intelligence information for distribution, and preparing response to data practice requests, including redaction and distribution of records for the Sheriff's Office, in accordance with the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. This work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.
Work Environment
These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Talk/speak, hearing close proximity (0-5 feet), vision (near, midrange, and color vision), works around others, and inside. FREQUENT: Lift up to 10 pounds; carry up to 10 pounds, grasp, reach, rotate neck, wrist turn (right & left), maintain posture, sit, stand, walk, vision (depth perception), hearing (distance up to 20 ft), and works alone. OCCASIONAL: Reach above shoulder, bend neck and static neck position, twist (waist), customers/public contact, extended day, and drive. RARE: Lift up to 50 pounds, carry-push/pull while moving up to 50 pounds, stoop, and outside.
Selection Process
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):
  • Bachelor's Degree in criminal justice, criminology, public administration, statistics, legal studies, or closely related field; OR Associate's Degree AND two (2) years full-time, paid, verifiable experience in a law enforcement agency, with responsibility for compiling and analyzing data; OR four (4) years of full-time, paid, verifiable experience in a law enforcement agency, with responsibility for compiling and analyzing data;
  • Possession of Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Training and/or certification in crime analysis methods or data or statistical analysis methods and applications, including crime analysis applications, Pen Link Telephone Toll Analysis, CrimeView, Intelligence Analyst Notebook; and ArcGIS or mapping software.
  • Experience creating maps utilizing GIS technology.
  • Experience with Minnesota Government Data Practices laws and the data practices request process.
