Job Summary
The Institutional Data Analytics + Assessment (IDA+A) office is seeking a Data Analyst (P@), Senior Data Analyst (P3), or Lead Data Analyst (P4). This role supports high-visibility institutional priorities through advanced analytics, reporting, and strategic insight, enabling leaders to make informed decisions that impact students, faculty, and operations at scale.
In this role, you will contribute to research, statistical analysis, report development, dashboard creation, and evidence-based decision support. Working closely with a broad range of campus stakeholders, you will support data-informed decision-making for both day-to-day operations and broader institutional initiatives.
This position will be filled at the appropriate career level (P2, P3, or P4) based on the selected candidate's skills and experience. Responsibilities, scope, and influence increase with level. All levels emphasize collaboration, teamwork, and the delivery of clear, insightful, actionable, and customer-focused analytics. Depending on level, you will work alongside analytics colleagues (P2), mentor and influence peers (P3), or lead complex initiatives and set analytical standards (P4), while partnering closely with staff in assessment, data engineering, data science, and data governance.

Responsibilities
  • P2 (Data Analyst): Executes analyses, builds reports, develops technical skills
  • P3 (Senior): Leads projects, mentors peers, improves data quality and practices
  • P4 (Lead): Drives strategy, leads large initiatives, sets standards across domains

Support Data and Information Needs (All Levels)
  • Deliver timely, accurate routine and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and analyses
  • Create and maintain curated data sets to support reporting and analytics
  • Conduct descriptive, summary, and statistical analyses (e.g., regression, ANOVA)
  • Interpret results and communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Independently complete analytical projects of increasing complexity based on level

Training, Documentation, and Metadata (All Levels)
  • Author and maintain metadata, data definitions, and technical specifications
  • Contribute to training materials and documentation supporting data fluency
  • Provide system administration support for the Data Cookbook and enterprise metadata tools

Participate in the Purdue Data Community (All Levels)
  • Collaborate with campus data partners to enhance data quality and shared understanding
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders across functional and technical areas
  • Model best practices in data stewardship, documentation, and responsible data use

Enhance Data Quality and Analytical Standards (P3 & P4)
  • Collaborate with campus partners to improve data quality through enhancements and process improvements
  • Resolve complex data quaity issues spanning multiple subject areas or systems
  • Develop and execute validation plans for new data sets and business intelligence updates
  • Influence adoption of standards, best practices, and consistent analytical approaches

Strategic Partnership & Leadership (P3 & P4)
  • Build deep understanding of functional areas such as Enrollment Management Communications, the Registrar, Admissions, and/or Financial Aid
  • Translate functional needs into tailored analytical solutions
  • Serve as a trusted analytics partner for assigned domains

Leadership & Impact (P4)
  • Lead large, complex, and often ambiguous analytics initiatives with cross-departmental impact
  • Set analytical standards and guide approaches for reporting, validation, and data use
  • Mentor and coach analytics colleagues; review and guide others' work
  • Provide measurable input into planning, prioritization, and strategic initiatives
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert representing IDA+A in campus-wide efforts

What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience in data extraction, processing, visualization, and analysis:
  • P2: 2+years (a full-time internship may count toward experience)
  • P3: 4+years
  • P4: 6+years
  • Strong communication skills, including presenting findings and maintaining documentation
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential data responsibly
  • Experience with BI tools (Tableau preferred)
  • Knowledge of relational databases and reporting tools (SQL and Cognos preferred)
  • Experience conducting statistical analysis (e.g., SAS, SPSS, Minitab)
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and self-directed work

  • Degree in Business, Management, Financial Management, MIS, CIT, Math/Statistics, Behavioral & Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Master's degree

  • Experience supporting higher education data, analytics, or reporting environments
  • Experience using generative AI tools to support analytical workflows (e.g., documentation, exploratory analysis, summarization), with attention to responsible and ethical use
