DPS stands for 'Damage Per Second' and refers to both a metric and a role in many video games, especially in MMORPGs and team-based shooters. DPS roles can be specialized in ranged or melee attacks, and their effectiveness often relies on maximizing output while avoiding taking damage themselves. Teams often balance DPS with other roles like tanks and healers for overall success.
