What is a d2d sales rep?

A Door-to-Door (D2D) Sales Representative is responsible for selling products or services directly to customers by visiting homes or businesses. They engage with potential clients, present offerings, and persuade them to make a purchase. This role requires strong communication skills, persistence, and the ability to handle objections. Compensation often includes a base salary plus commissions based on sales performance.

What does a d2d sales rep do?

A typical day for a D2D Sales Rep involves traveling to assigned neighborhoods or territories, knocking on doors to introduce products or services, and engaging potential customers in conversation. You’ll spend much of your time actively prospecting, demonstrating products, handling objections, and closing sales, all while documenting your interactions using a CRM system or sales tracking app. The role often requires working independently, but successful reps regularly regroup with their team for strategy sessions, training, and support. This energetic and people-focused position offers the excitement of meeting new clients daily and clear, performance-based opportunities for advancement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the d2d sales rep position?

To thrive as a D2D (Door-to-Door) Sales Rep, you need strong persuasive communication skills, resilience, a basic understanding of sales techniques, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software and mobile sales apps is commonly required to track leads and manage appointments. Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and adaptability set top performers apart in this field. These abilities are crucial for building rapport, handling rejection, and consistently achieving sales targets in a dynamic, face-to-face selling environment.

Is being a door-to-door sales representative worth it?

A door-to-door sales representative can develop strong communication and persuasion skills, and the job often offers flexible hours and commission-based pay. However, it can involve high rejection rates and physically demanding work, so its value depends on individual resilience and sales ability.

Job description

Job Overview

We are seeking an energetic and motivated Field Sales Representative to join our dynamic team!

In this role, you will be the driving force behind building strong customer relationships, promoting our professional window cleaning services, and ensuring an exceptional client experience. Your enthusiasm and proactive approach will help expand our market presence, increase sales, and foster long-term loyalty. This independent contractor sales position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your sales skills, create your own schedule, and earn a competitive top-line commission with no limit on earnings, while contributing to a vibrant team dedicated to excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with customers in commercial or residential on-route settings to understand their needs and recommend suitable window cleaning services.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients through effective communication and personalized service.
  • Conduct upselling by identifying additional needs and presenting relevant options to maximize sales opportunities.
  • Manage route driving responsibilities.
  • Apply knowledge of pricing strategies to offer competitive quotes and negotiate terms that benefit both the customer and company.
  • Follow DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations during automobile transportation tasks including maintaining valid drivers license and vehicle, registration and insurance.
  • Maintain organized records of sales activities, client interactions, and route schedules, within our customer relationship management system.
  • Collaborate with team members on scheduling, route planning, and achieving sales targets.
  • Foster strong customer relationships by providing excellent service, addressing concerns promptly, and ensuring satisfaction.

*As an independent contractor you will create your own schedule and sell our company's services directly to customers in various settings such as the client's home or place of business, public events, and temporary retail locations. This means the majority of your role will consist of door-to-door sales in Columbia and Lexington, South Carolina.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in sales, retail store environments or customer service roles is required, preferably at least one year.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent education is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Valid vehicle registration and insurance.
  • Knowledge of pricing strategies, upselling techniques, and basic math skills for accurate transactions.
  • Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
  • Organizational skills for managing schedules, route planning, and documentation efficiently.
  • Experience of at least one year in field sales is strongly preferred but not mandatory, depending on other relevant experience.
  • To succeed in this role, a field representative should be self-motivated and possess strong communication skills to effectively convey product details, negotiation skills to strike beneficial deals, industry knowledge to remain competitive, relationship-building skills to increase customer retention.

The pay structure is $100 a week base pay plus 10% commission on one-time jobs, and a 20% commission on recurring jobs (a "recurring job" is defined as a client contract that requires a minimum of 1 cleaning per month). Additional bonuses may be offered depending on the needs of the business.

Here is a hypothetical weekly earnings scenario: Let's say you close on 25 one-time jobs in a week, with each job costing an average of $220, your ten percent cut would be $550. Additionally, let's say you close on 4 recurring commercial jobs in that same week, with each job costing an average of $150, your twenty percent cut of that would be $120.

Under those circumstances, your pay for the week would total $770 ($550 + $120 + $100 base pay = $770).

Keep in mind, some higher ticket residential jobs could be well over $500 and some higher ticket commercial jobs could be well over $1000, which means a highly motivated, skilled sales rep closing on higher ticket jobs like that could easily double that weekly rate!

Please note, despite the listing specifying that the max weekly pay is 1000, there is no limit to your earning potential. We will never cap your commission or draw against your commission. The more jobs you close, the more you make!

Join The Shining Windows as a Field Sales Representative where your energy fuels your success! Bring your passion for customer service, your knack for sales, and your drive for excellence—together we’ll achieve great things.
