POSITION SPECIFICS

Teaching Faculty Positionsin Cybersecurity

The Department of Privacy and Cybersecurity Informatics(PCI) in the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for multiple open-rank teaching faculty positions in our cybersecurity degree program, beginning in January of 2027 at the University Park campus located in State College, Pennsylvania. These are non-tenure-line term appointments with an excellent possibility of renewal as multi-year appointments. Fully remote appointments are not permitted for these hires.

Teaching emphases include, but are not limited to network security, fundamentals of information security, digital forensics, cyber defense tools and technologies, malware analysis, incident handling and response, data-driven cybersecurity including AI-powered cybersecurity, information security management, cybersecurity risk management, hardware security, cryptography including post-quantum cryptography, and/or organizational and human factors in cybersecurity and privacy.

Applicants should provide evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level and a desire to collaborate with the PCI department faculty and the IST faculty on curricular innovation and development efforts. A commitment to teaching learners at all levels and from all backgrounds is essential. Primary responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate courses in residential, online, and/or hybrid modes. Qualified faculty may also teach graduate courses. University service is expected by all teaching faculty.

Applicants must hold a master's degree or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or other terminal degree) in information science, cybersecurity, computer science, or a related discipline by the appointment start date with Penn State. Candidates will be considered for a teaching faculty rank commensurate with their education, experience, and qualifications in accordance with Penn State policyAC21. Teaching faculty ranks within IST include Lecturer, Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, Teaching Professor, and, when appropriate, Professor of Practice. Professor of Practice candidates will be evaluated on their degree and extensive professional experience which must meet the requirements in AC21.

Applicants will include the following materials with their application: i) cover letter detailing your qualifications for the position; ii) teaching statement; iii) curriculum vitae; and iv) contact information for at least three professional references. Please limit your teaching statement to two pages and provide a description of your teaching philosophy, experience, and the pedagogical techniques you use to engage students. Additionally, indicate specific courses from our programs that you would be excited to teach, as well as any new courses you are interested in developing.
