Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) - Cath Lab Technologist
The Cath Lab Technologist provides procedural support for invasive cardiovascular interventions, maintains sterile fields, and assists the physician during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Role includes equipment preparation, patient monitoring, radiation safety, and post-procedure cleanup and documentation.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the catheterization laboratory for procedures and maintain sterile technique
- Assist physicians with diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures
- Monitor patient status during procedures and document vital signs and sedation parameters
- Operate and troubleshoot imaging and interventional equipment
- Assist with equipment counts, specimen handling, and procedure note completion
- Maintain infection control protocols and radiation safety practices
- Collaborate with the cardiac care team to ensure smooth workflow
Qualifications
Education: Certificate or associate degree in cardiovascular technology or related field
Licensure: Licensure or registration as a CVT or radiology technologist as required by state
Certifications:
- RCIS or equivalent cardiovascular invasive certification
- CCRP or ARRT-based radiology certification as applicable
Experience or Skills: Experience in a catheterization laboratory or interventional suite; strong manual dexterity and teamwork
Experience
- 2โ4 years in a cath lab or interventional setting
- Experience assisting with coronary and interventional procedures
Preferred
- Experience with radiation safety management and anticoagulation monitoring
- Ability to adapt to variable procedure schedules
Work Environment
Work occurs in a hospital cath lab under sterile conditions with exposure to radiation and fast-paced, high-acuity procedures.
Team-based environment with collaboration among physicians, nurses, and technologists; shift patterns may include on-call requirements.
Documentation and equipment maintenance are integral parts of daily workflow.
